:: It's been hard out there for rappers but RnB Stars Mary J Blige and Alicia Keys still manage to move records in this end of the year 2007. Alicia Keys new effort 'As I Am' is still #3 after 6 weeks on the charts. This week, she has a huge 62% sales increase and sell 474,000 additional units. She has sold an overall impressive 2,350,000 units while after 15 weeks Kanye West has sold 1,848,500 copies of 'Graduation' and 50Cent moved 1,201,833 units of Curtis.

December 28, 2007
:: Flo Rida's hit single "Low" featuring T-Pain has dethroned Alicia Keys' "No One" to take over the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The track's 2-1 rise follows increased airplay and digital sales of 178,000 units. Keys, meanwhile, falls to No. 2 after five weeks atop the chart. On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Keys becomes only the second artist since this chart began using Nielsen Music data in 1992 to succeed herself at No. 1, as "Like You'll Never See Me Again" jumps 2-1 and trades places with "No One," which had ruled for 10 weeks. Nelly was the first to make it happen in 2002 with "Hot in Herre" and "Dilemma."
:: I've updated videography and filmography sections.
:: I've uploaded video of 'No One' live performance from Japan, download it from here. I've also added some caps, check them in the gallery.

December 26, 2007

December 22, 2007
:: Fergie, in her latest interview, talks about artists being treated by record companies as merchandise: "At some point, this business decided that the artists can just be ringtones, just get these quick-hit songs. But other people like Alicia Keys, an artist I really admire, spend time on every song, and I really appreciate it as a listener". You can read it here.
:: My lovely Jill sent me a link to an audio interview with Miss Keys. It's from Juize.fm music channel in Holland, listen to it on this page. Thanks hun!

December 21, 2007
:: Alicia led Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart for a fifth week on Thursday with 'No One' a tune that also logged a tenth week atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. However, Keys is in position to dethrone herself on both charts before long with "Like You'll Never See Me Again." That cut inched up one to No. 2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and up six to No. 13 on the Hot 100.
:: I've got email from lovely Jill: "I've found Alicia on online magazine. The website is called Bol.com and it's basically online store where you can buy a lot of things. To promote her new album, they've put Alicia on the cover of their online digital magazine called Bomvol. You can go through the pages on the website and there is also an interview in video format with Alicia and a fragment of her showcase in Amsterdam". Thanks so much Jill <3 Click here to see it. I've added it to videos page, you can download it right now. To view captures click on thumbs.

December 21, 2007
:: Alicia is back with her first album in four years, and she's already talking about her next one: "I would really like to put out another album relatively soon. Something that's a bit more stripped back... I already have about six or sevenrecords for it that I love. I just want to keep creating. The last record and the last tour, I went so hard that I kind of took away that side of me. And when it came time to come back around to create again it took me a while to find my groove. I just don't want to ever get that far away from it again." Read the full article on LA Times.
:: Check out the picture on the left, it's Alicia and Elmo from 'Elmo's Christmas Countdown'! Soo cute :) The show will be aired on December 23 on ABC, don't forget to watch it. Thanks to soulartist15 for posting it!

December 20, 2007
:: Alicia Keys hopes Jamie Lynn Spears will become a spokesperson for safe sex. The singer made her plea live on The View this week. Speaking about Spears, who is 16 and pregnant, Keys said: "I think that maybe she can use this opportunity to talk about the ways that it's really important to have safe sex and it's difficult [for teens] to refrain and restrain but it's really important because it changes your whole life. "It's a very serious thing." Talking about the effect that early stardom has on young people, Keys, 27, told the three panellists and the studio audience: "Different people have different lives and different situations. I think that it is a very intense business and that in a lot of ways you are exposed to so much so quickly, so often there's really no limit to what you can get or have or do. "[Whatever you ask for] is there. "You can be 13. You can be nine. You can be 47. It really doesn't matter. It's basically handed to you on a platter. But the point is that it gets very hard and difficult because most of the people in the industry are very young and we are influenced easily". When asked why she had not fallen into that trap like Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson, Keys said: "I think it really depends on your personal situation - how you were raised and who's around you. Read the full article here. Video from the show is ready to download, Alicia's performance will be added soon.

December 20, 2007

:: Dakota Fanning and Alicia Keys are in final negotiations to join the cast of "The Secret Life of Bees," a female-oriented coming-of-age tale based on the Sue Monk Kidd best-seller. Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Sophie Okonedo are already on board the Fox Searchlight project, which is scheduled to go into production next month in North Carolina. The studio is planning on a release later in 2008. "Bees," a drama set in the Southern U.S. in the 1960s, centers on teenager Lily Owens (Fanning) and her friend Rosaleen (Hudson) who flee their hometown to escape their harsh upbringing and seek to uncover the mysteries of Lily's late mother. Along the way, they encounter three beekeeping sisters (Latifah, Okonedo, Keys) who take the pair in to their South Carolina home. Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct "Bees" from her own adaptation, which was completed before the writers strike began last month. Monk Kidd's novel was a sensation when it was released five years ago, spending more than two years on the New York Times best-seller list.
:: It's not officially confirmed, but I found a news that Miss Keys will perform at Gucci's fund-raiser on February 6th. The event, dubbed "A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF," will take place in a purpose-built structure on the North Lawn of the United Nations. The 18-acre U.N. site on Manhattan's East River is international territory, which means that it doesn't belong to any one country or government, and the Gucci soiree is the first of its kind to ever take place there. It promises to be quite a party. Hosted by the luxury house and Madonna, Gucci tapped Alicia Keys, Timbaland and Rihanna for special musical performances.
:: Elena sent me scans from german Petra magazine, check them in gallery. Thx Elena! Alicia is also on the cover of dutch Stars magazine, I'm looking for scans :)

December 20, 2007
:: "We're about to see an extravaganza of a lifetime!" the announcer shouted from the stage. All eyes in the room suddenly looked up to the ceiling, where a bundle of white twigs had been tied together with Christmas lights to resemble a massive flying horse that seemed like it might swoop down and breathe fire on the curtains. But the announcer just meant that Alicia Keys was about to come on and play a few nice tunes. Granted, it's probably been some time since the soul sensation headlined a venue as small as Ruby Skye. Last time she was in the Bay Area, it was for a pair of sold-out shows at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Four days earlier it was Madison Square Garden, topping a bill that featured Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne and the Jonas Brothers. But on Monday, Keys crammed her Vegas-sized revue into the intimate Union Square nightclub to help radio station 106.1 KMEL-FM usher in the holiday season and spread the buzz around her new No. 1 album, "As I Am." Read the full story. Here are four photos from the show.

December 19, 2007
:: Alicia rules the holiday radio waves. besides her endless stay at No.1 with 'No One' (now up to nine weeks), she now occupies the anchor slot in the top 10 with Like You'll Never See You Again, which is the fastest-rising song in the top 10. Read more.
:: I've added Giant magazine photoshoot by Kenneth Cappello. Click on thumbs.

December 19, 2007
:: The View co-hosts discussed the Mike Huckabee Christmas ad when Joy Behar moved to quote Ron Paul, ideologically libertarian, whom Behar calls "a very staunch Republican," who quoted Sinclair Lewis: "When Fascism comes to the country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross."When they played the advertisement, Behar moaned "we don’t have to listen to him do we?". Read the transcript (featuring Alicia) on this page. Hopefuly, video interview with Keys will be added soon.
:: I've uploaded a video from Oslo's intimate showcase with parts of The Thing About Love, LYNSMA and Superwoman performances. It's really worth to see, Alicia talks about the songs and laughs with the audience. You can watch or download it from here. Big thx to Lene! <3

:: Ciara has already made a New Year's resolution - to collaborate with Alicia Keys. The Goodies singer is so desperate to team up with Keys on a track, she has made it a priority mission for 2008. She says, "I've always thought she was very beautiful and very talented but I'm starting to have a different respect for her and her music".

The Grammy award winning singer-songwriter's latest release As I Am has sold more than 1.6 million copies in the U.S. in only its first month of release. The J Records release has sold in excess of 2.3 records worldwide. Debuting at No. 1, As I Am has been in the top three albums for four weeks on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, flipping spots with the Eagles and Josh Groban. December 15, 2007
:: In a recent interview with Giant magazine, Alicia revealed that the talk show queen had advised her to maintain total secrecy about her relationships. When Keys was asked about her rumoured romance with her producer, she replied: "That's what they've been saying for a while now, but I don't usually address that question. Oprah told me never to tell - and I can't disobey Oprah!". However, Alicia did admit that she has found a perfect partner for herself. "I definitely found my partner. I know he is somebody who will always be special to me and that we're always going to be in each other's lives". She also owned up to her secretive nature during the initial stages of a relationship. "It's my nature to let them show me who they are first before I show them who I am. But once I'm in love with somebody, I'm the best girlfriend you could ever have," she said. Alicia said that her tendency to hold back had been emotionally draining at times, especially when she battled depression. "I was feeling so sad all the time, and I couldn't shake it," she says. "I started burying my feelings, and it got to a point where I couldn't even tell my family or my friends, 'I'm twisted,' or 'I'm exhausted,' or 'I'm so angry.' I became a master of putting up the wall so that I was unreadable," she said.

December 14, 2007
:: Alicia Keys is showing no signs of budging atop the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, where her track "No One" is No. 1 for a fourth and ninth week, respectively. Keys' biggest challengers remain Timbaland's "Apologize" featuring OneRepublic, up 3-2 on the Hot 100, and Flo Rida's "Low" featuring T-Pain, which rises 4-3 and is the fastest growing track at radio. But another Keys song is on the move on both the Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs: "Like You'll Never See Me Again" rises 29-19 on the former and 9-3 on the latter, where it is the greatest airplay gainer. Read more on Billboard.com.
:: I've uploaded three videos and mp3s from Nobel Peace Prize Concert: No One, Human Nature and Fallin'. You can get them all from videos page. Enjoy!

December 13, 2007

:: Saying "For me, the Nobel Peace Prize is an extremely distinguished award for people who truly do serious work to make major change in the world," Alicia Keys took the stage Tuesday in Oslo to help present a concert in honor of this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureates, former US Vice President Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Among the other stars performing were Annie Lennox, KT Tunstall, Kylie Minogue, Melissa Etheridge, and more. I've added much more great hq photos from the concert, check them.

December 13, 2007
:: It is official - Alicia will play Lena Horne in a movie on the music legend and not Janet Jackson as was rumoured earlier. Oprah Winfrey, who has taken over the project, wanted Keys in the lead role. She said: 'We are going to start filming next year. And we have got Alicia.' The casting seems to be making sense since Keys and Horne share a lot in common. Both were from New York and became famous quickly. Keys is a spokesperson for several AIDS organisations and Horne was heavily involved in the civil rights movement.
:: Scans from Giant magazine have been added. Thx to sexy Jackie for scanning these for us! :)

December 12, 2007
:: I got the most incredible gift! My amazing friend Ivana was one of the lucky guests at Alicia's showcase in Oslo. There was meet&greet and they had a good while to chat... The best part (for me, personally) was when Ivana asked Alicia:
"Do you know of Alicia Keys Online?"
And her eyes lit up, she said: "Yes I love that site!" :)
Then I said: "You know the girl Roxana, she lives in Poland...".
Alicia was like :"Yea yea..".
And I kept:" You never go to Poland".
Alicia: "I know, it's not easy to go everywhere".
I continued: "Roxana doesn't know that I am doing this, but I was wondering if you could sign this cover for her. I know she will appreciate this so much and she'll be so thankful and happy."
She took the cover and signed it, we kept talking and both Lene and I said how we love AKO.
And Alicia said "She is so good I'm about to hire her myself" !!!! :)
Isn't that a great story or what? In my opinion this is the story of the year! You can view my signed cover and autograph by clicking on thumbs below. It says:
"Roxanna

Love & thanks
You are incredible!
Alicia Keys"
I've also added it to the site logo on the right. I'm so proud of it :) Ivanka, thank u soooo much! You are the greatest, love you pretty girl <3

Alicia has just released her album, 'As I Am' that like her first three CDs, reached number one on the Billboard Album Chart. With two motion pictures and her new album, she has had a very busy year. Alicia Keys visited VOA's Larry London when she recently stopped in Washington. After graduating as valedictorian from the prestigious Professional Performing Arts School in New York at the age of 16, Alicia Keys signed a record contract with the So So Def label. Although she wrote a song for the film Men In Black, her own music never attracted much attention. It was not until Clive Davis discovered her in 2000 that her career would take off. December 2, 2007 Performing Songwriter Magazine
:: In August 2006, Bob Dylan released his first album in five years, Modern Times. What, his devotees wondered, would it sound like? What was on Dylan's mind these days? The answer came in the opening track, 'Thunder on the Mountain': "I was thinkin'about Alicia Keys, couldn’t keep from crying...". This was something of a surprise - not least of all to Keys herself. "I didn’t quite know what to think" she admits with a laugh. "When somebody first told me about it, I thought it was a joke. I was like, 'Why?'. They said, 'I don't know, I thought maybe you'd know'. But does it get any cooler than that? I don't think so." For more, get the latest Issue of Performing Songwriter here.

:: The Christmas season starts early in Tokyo and Alicia Keys was there to help it get going. She made a brief appearance at a Tokyo office building Thursday to sing a few songs from her new album and wish a crowd of several hundred a happy holiday season - with a three-storey-tall Christmas tree lit up in bright pink behind her. "My new name is Alicia Trees," she said. Keys has a lot to celebrate. Her album, released Nov. 13, has risen to the top of the Japanese charts. She said the album's success shows the universal appeal of her music. "I want to reach all kinds of listeners. It means a lot to me that people from all places can appreciate the music," she said. "I can't wait to come back for a big tour". First, however, she said she wants to go back to the United States to spend a quiet holiday season. "Christmas is always special for me," she said. "I like to have a big meal with my family". Here are photos from her visit.

:: With the release of her third studio album, Alicia Keys got an early Christmas present. The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard charts and sold 742,000 copies in its first week, the second-biggest first-week sales of 2007 so far (behind Kanye West) - and a career high for Ms. Keys. From the emotional lead single "No One" to anthems like "Superwoman" the album features carefully crafted pop songs embedded with vintage touches, such as keyboard sounds reminiscent of Stevie Wonder. The Wall Street Journal asked her about her influences, her fans and the music industry. Read the full interview by clicking here.

:: Already locked in the pole position with the country's No. 1 album and its No. 1 single 'No One', Alicia Keys unfurls another likely chart-topper with this warm midtempo ballad 'Like You'll Never See Me Again'. As fine a piece of classic soul as you'll find on the contemporary R&B landscape, the song features a tastefully restrained but stirring performance from Keys as it blends a gospel vibe with a Prince-savvy pop sensibility. The tune was cowritten by longtime Keys collaborator (and rumored boyfriend) Kerry Brothers and is already leapfrogging up the charts as it sets its sights on the top spot.

Alicia on Tyra:: Megastar Alicia Keys like you've never seen her before! The Grammy Award winner spends an hour with Tyra and nothing is off limits, including what it was like growing up bi-racial, Alicia's rise in the music world and the untold story of her near-nervous breakdown that drove her to take a break from the industry. Then, Tyra takes her back in time as they look at Alicia's trademark hairstyles over the years. The singer finds herself in the hot seat when Tyra asks questions she's never answered, including her bra size and if she has ever played piano in the nude. Finally, Alicia brings the house down as she performs two songs off her new album. Click here to watch a short clip from the show. It will be aired on Monday, November 26th.

:: Alicia Keys has revealed she's planning a collaboration with The White Stripes - and says she can't wait. "I'm dying to work with The White Stripes!" she says. "We are going to make something crazy. We tried to work it out for this record, but the timing wasn't right. I know we'll be able to do it next time." The US songstress - whose new album, As I Am, hits the shops this month - is also hoping to work with American rock band Queens Of The Stone Age at some point in the future. "I think they've got a simple approach to music, but it has a soul and a knock to it that makes me think we could do something very special".
:: A day after debuting at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with "As I Am", Alicia Keys assumes control of the Billboard Hot 100 with "No One" which inches up from No. 2. :: Alicia has posted up a new blog on KrucialKeys blog thanking the fans for making her album #1 in the country. You can also download mp3 with her performance of 'How To Save A Life'.
:: She's released four albums over the course of her career, and all four have debuted at #1 on the Billboard top 200, including her most recent studio offering, As I Am, which first landed in record shops last week. What this all means, at least in sports terms, is that R&B songbird Alicia has a perfect 4-for-4 record. But a fourth #1 opening isn't the only thing Keys is thankful for this week. With 742,400 copies sold, As I Am earns the distinction of being the singer's best-performing debut. Her 2001 LP Songs in A Minor sold 235,800 copies to enter the top 200 at #1 while 2003's The Diary scanned more than 618,300 copies, her 2005 Unplugged set sold close to 196,000 units. Plus, As I Am, according to SoundScan totals, walked away with the chart's peak position, with her closest competitor, Josh Groban's Christmas-themed Neel, trailing at #2 with sales reported at 223,000. :: Blair Underwood introduced Alicia Keys, who on the verge of her latest album release, performed the album's first hit single, "No One" with a twist. :: "Harlem is where I got my personal swagger from". Good luck getting Alicia Keys to ever leave Manhattan. The 27-year-old, who grew up in Hell's Kitchen and Harlem - where she currently resides in a beautiful brownstone - finds all her favorite destinations in the same area code. Whether she's shopping for a flashy new lid or checking out a show, Keys - whose third studio album, "As I Am," was released Tuesday - can't get enough of the Big Apple. Now, after all the hard work is over, the nine-time Grammy winner plans to get reacquainted with all her favorite digs. This is her New York. Read more on New York Post.

:: Alicia Keys has a new song called Superwoman: "Even when I'm a mess, I still put on a vest with an 'S' on my chest. Oh yes, I'm a superwoman". "I'm talking about every woman who has felt weak before and is still so strong even in her weakness," she says on the line from New York. "But that's me. I'm talking about me". Ask Keys what her weaknesses are, and she says "ex-weaknesses. Because I'm new and improved. I was a very chronic people-pleaser. Like, chronic. To the point where everyone else came first, even people I didn't know. This might come as a surprise to her fans. Ever since she hollered the empowering A Woman's Worth, Keys has represented female strength and dignity, an anomaly in a music scene dominated by sexualised, well, people-pleasers. "I think I'm a person who looks for strength. That's cool. As women we definitely have to feel strong about ourselves." Read the article here.
:: I've added hq photos from yesterday's exclusive appearance and performance at the Bellavardo Studios in Los Angeles, where Alicia looked amazing. Today she will perform at American Music Awards on ABC, don't forget to watch it!

:: Alicia Keys' new album is all about self-empowerment, and it's no wonder why: she recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she has battled depression. When a family member fell ill in summer 2006, "It made me finally stop," Keys said. "Nothing else was more important - no work, no costumes, no anything. I was forced to slow down, look at my life and decide who I wanted to be. It all got very low at first because I was very depressed and I didn't understand why." After taking a monthlong trek across Egypt - during which she was only accompanied by a tour guide - and returning to the States, she promised herself that she "was going to be courageous enough to tell whoever is in my life what was going on. I became brutally honest. I would go straight up to people and say, 'Guess what? This is over. So what's gonna happen from now on is this: If you're feeling that, great. If not, bye.' Some people didn't like it, and they didn't like me being so clear and set on what I wanted. But I found that I took their power away." The issue hits newsstands Monday. Photos can be found in the gallery.

NY Times called Keys' latest album "her strongest effort yet." Of the rave reviews, Keys said, "There has been an overall feeling that I've come into my own. That's why I named this album: 'As I Am' because this is really who I am" Read more.

:: Alicia Keys has revealed that she can't trust people easily. has revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she prefers to stay reserved ever since she was a kid, because she's afraid people will use things she's said to them against her if she opens up to them. "I've just always been like, 'If you don't know about me, there's nothing you can say to destroy or hurt me.' So, moving into a career where people are always prying, my instinct has always been to close up. I discovered a lot about myself I didn't like. I would look in the mirror, and I didn't know who that person was. I didn't like my eyes; I didn't like what they said. I couldn't sleep. I was uncomfortable all the time, and irritated and frustrated," she added.

November 14, 2007
:: When she stopped in Atlanta last week to promote her new compact disc, 'As I Am', Alicia Keys was, as she put it, a little twisted. That's "fighting a cold" to everyone else. Fighting so hard, in fact, that during her free performance hours earlier, she sipped water and hot tea between each song and at one point asked the audience whether it was OK to blow her nose before she sang 'Diary'. "I didn't have a clue how that whole thing was going to work out,"she recalled afterward. "I broke out into the shivers after the show. And when I got to the hotel, I was so cold I, like, dove into a hot bath; I was so twisted. The thing is, no matter what or how I'm feeling, I just give and give of myself". So as her third original CD hits stores this week, what does the singer-songwriter want to do next? Read Q&A with Miss Keys on this page.

:: The Hot 97 Alicia Keys VIP Lounge went down today on the Angie Martinez Show. As Angie discussed some hot topics with Alicia, members of the audience got to ask some of their own questions as well. In between the questions, fans got to hear exclusive sneak peeks off her new album, As I Am. Keys looked beautiful in a black sequined hoodie and black jeans, but when asked about flaunting her sex appeal, she stated that she was more concerned with being a positive role model for young women. It was for this reason why you won't see the star in meaningless commercials and campaigns. Keys believes in standing up for causes worth fighting for. You can see the songtress in Keep a Child Alive and Product Red commercials. Before performing live for her fans Miss Keys also took the time to speak to the children in the crowd, encouraging them to follow their dreams. She performed 'You Don't Know My Name' and smash hit 'No One' live for her fans. Her band was amazing and of course Keys rocked out on the piano. Amazing interview (fans' questions are always the best!), Alicia's freestyle plus two live performances... two words - great show! You can download full podcast now by clicking here (use right click and save target as). Here are several small photos from the event.

November 12, 2007
:: This week, Alicia Keys releases her third studio album 'As I Am'. The single "No One" is already topping many of Billboard's R&B charts and she's set to do what many of her peers have failed to do - put out her fourth blockbuster album in a row. What makes her so special? What does she have that other artists don't? Her strength is her range. In the often fickle world of modern hip-hop and R&B, she's really a perfect storm of a performer. From the start, Keys set the bar quite high. She was Clive Davis' first real protege on his label J Records after he left Arista, when out of the blue she debuted at No1 with "Songs in A Minor". Read more on ABC News.
:: If it weren't for her mother, Alicia Keys might have a radically different image. Keys says that when she was trying to choose a professional name she went through a dictionary and stopped on the word "wild". She tells Newsweek in the magazine's Nov. 19 issue that she asked her mother how Alicia Wild sounded to her. "She said 'It sounds like you're a stripper" Keys said. After that, she decided to use Keys. "It's like the piano keys. And it can open so many doors" she said.

:: When we talk about classic albums we're really talking about the difference between being hot - and being beautiful. Let's think about it in terms we can all relate to: You're at a party when “the hot girl” walks in, one glance and you're hooked. Before you know it you're dating her and it's great…for a while. Then the initial rush wears off and you're already searching for the next best thing. Beautiful, on the other hand, lasts a lifetime. And what's even better is that a truly beautiful woman can always be hot, but a merely hot woman can never be beautiful. You might want to take notes, I'm really breaking it down today. You date hot, you marry beautiful, and lately the entire DJBooth staff has been thinking up some marriage proposals. What could drive grown men to consider getting down on one knee? It could only be Alicia Keys and her new album As I Am. Keys may not drop the kind of hot tracks that will tear up a club, but there's no denying the innate beauty that shines through in her music. For over six years now she's teased us with the promise of a timeless album, the wait is finally over. Read the full review here.

:: It's tough not to like someone who describes her latest album as "Janis Joplin meets Aretha Franklin". In fact, "As I Am," has a lot more of the "Queen of Soul" going for it than "Pearl," but that's all part of the appeal of Alicia Keys, the heavenly soulful, nine-time Grammy Award winner. In the years since her phenomenally successful 2001 release "Songs in A Minor," the piano-playing songwriter has proved to be anything other than some one hit wonder. But it's not just sales that matter here. Keys is that rare combination of someone who's never forsaken an ounce of artistic integrity while maintaining incredibly strong commercial viability. :: Awesome Samme sent me lyrics for 'Go Ahead', 'I Need You' and 'Wreckless Love'. MikaG shared lyrics for 'Sure Looks Good To Me'. You can view them all in Lyrics Archive. Thanks so much both of you! It looks like we have almost all songs in there :)

:: On ''Girlfriend' one of her earliest singles, Alicia Keys blatantly ripped off Ol' Dirty Bastard's rowdy street anthem from 1995, ''Brooklyn Zoo'' - right down to the unladylike line ''It's enough to make a n.. go crazy.'' By contrast, track 11 on her third effort, As I Am, subtly borrows the organ riff from Wendy Rene's 1964 song ''After Laughter (Comes Tears)'' - the exact cut sampled by the Wu-Tang Clan for ''Tearz,'' of 1993's Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Keys may always harbor a fondness for Wu-Tang, but as she's ascended from R&B upstart to actress-spokesmodel-music diva, all of her varied sensibilities, rap, soul, classical, have folded into a tidier, pop package. The result is Keys' most polished album to date. Read more.

:: Here is an interesting article from Italian Tgcom translated by Alice and me: Strange world of the soul. On one hand, excesses of Amy Winehouse, on the other: sweetness and honesty of Alicia Keys. "I am a new person" she said about the album "As I am". I detached myself from the old friends who were not positive. " And about the gossip she was a lesbian Alicia said: "It was because of my image of the past, rude and rough, but now I feel very womanly". Grown in one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York, Hell's Kitchen, little Alicia decided to attend the Professional Performing Arts School and later, when she was 14 years old she was discovered by producer Jeff Robinson. This began a musical journey leading Keys straight to the top of the music world. However, Alicia does not deal only in music. In 2004 the New York Daily News appointed her their field corresponder. During her tour around the world the artist wrote reports on places she visited. For the CW Network she is developing a television series "Zora" on a fifteen-year old bi-racial student in high school struggling with adolescent issues. "Nothing personal, I just wanted to talk about the reality of a city like New York." Alicia is back in a better shape than ever and we meet in a Milan location. She has just returned from a private party the night before where she delighted VIPs (Paolo Maldini and Armani). She wore black jeans, a red jacket with a black T-shirt designed with a crown of sequins, her hair let loose (farewell to braids that characterized her previous look), gold hoop earrings and high heel. :: With her third studio album 'As I Am' landing in stores next week, Alicia is poised to regain her reign over R&B. In this Sohh Exclusive Keys opens up about the new album, talks of a possible collaboration with Beyoncé, and offers her thoughts on America's troubling racial divide. Keys' debut album Songs in A Minor won her five Grammy Awards, while her sophomore album Diary picked up another four, but despite her previous award-winning and multi-platinum selling successes, Alicia is keeping cool, calm and collected about how her third studio album will fare. "I don't feel any pressure at all. I think people just want things that make 'em feel something. So I know that when people hear this music they're gonna feel something, they're gonna be moved by it. They're going to feel more of that goodness - so no pressure. You can definitely expect the unexpected from this album. It's different. It has a new energy. It has a new feeling. It has like more of aggression to it. I've learned a lot this year and I've been through a lot. So I think that I've grown as a person. You definitely feel it. You hear it in the sound of it. You hear it in the passion in my voice. You hear it all the way around the board. So I know that you're gonna.. It's exciting to be a little bit in a different place". Read the full story here.

:: Downstairs, Myleene Klass is sashaying between cables and curtains, dressed in a silver gown with a plunging neckline. Nicola, from Girls Aloud, totters through an open-plan coffee shop, carrying her toy dog, Elvis. Down the corridor, Chaka Khan's people are having a strop because someone has put pitta bread in her dressing room, not tortilla wraps. But the moment that the combination lock clicks shut on Alicia Keys’s dressing room door, the tiaras and tantrums are replaced with tranquillity. Keys is here for the recording of last weekend's ITV special, Saturday Night Divas. Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez have already filmed their spots. 'Miss Chaka', as Keys calls her friend, will soon sing I'm Every Woman for approximately the 18,000th time. Keys’s own performance may use no fewer than three pianos but it comes as something of a surprise, given the title of the show, that there is nothing affected about her. Her entourage is low-profile; a security guard keeps watch outside whatever room she is in, and as we talk, an assistant quietly makes her a cup of herbal tea. She is chatty, relaxed and switched-on, keen to engage in discussions about her music, occasionally turning the tables and asking her questioner’s opinion on topics that interest her. Read more.

:: Alicia Keys is only 26 but has already had an entire career's worth of dreams come true. Her songs top the charts, her concerts sell out worldwide, she's on the big-screen and the small screen. This week, she releases her third studio album, "As I Am." The first single has already hit No. 1. But she isn't feeling pressure to make this album the biggest commercial success of her career. "I don't think that I need to feel pressure about things like that. I know that musically and where I am in my mind and my space, it's definitely my best work yet. That, I know. So, you can't beat that." Keys doesn't lack for self-confidence. And you can trace that, and her music, directly back to her childhood. Her first major acting role came at the age of 5 when she played Rudi's friend on "The Cosby Show". Her love of the piano also came at an early age. She and her mother, a paralegal and struggling actress, were living in NYC's Hell's Kitchen. Her father, a flight attendant, had left them when she was 2. At age 6 she began begging her mother for piano lessons. "She's like, 'How? We don't have a piano. We can't afford a piano. Lessons? What do we do?' " Keys said. "You know, she was trying to figure it out. But, you know, she did. And we did. And I did". So today, Alicia Keys is one of the most respected pop stars. Learn more about her rise on CBS Sunday Morning at 9 am.

"Visiting the page exposes the visitor to an exploit that installs malware unless the user is fully patched against the most recent security vulnerabilities". Here is official news and you can also watch a video about it.

:: Alicia Keys has one notable guest on her disc, 'As I Am'. Pop-blues, singer-songwriter-guitarist John Mayer appears on Keys' song 'Lessons Learned', after she previously appeared on Mayer's song, 'Gravity'. "It really kind of started because we had seen each other at different events and had a chance to talk and kind of get to know each other. He's a really great guy, really funny, really intellectual, smart, and so we had a lot to talk about musically," Keys said. "And then one day he just called me and he was like, "I've got this song and it's just screaming for your voice on it and what if we just did something really cool, and we didn't make it all about labels and managers and lawyers, we just kind of came in and did music? And if he only knew how much I needed that song at that moment. To sing at the end of that song was a relief for me in so many ways. And he was like, 'Anytime, anywhere, anything, I'm there.' So when it came time for Mayer to appear on Keys' song, it was a no-brainer. "With this album, I just wanted us to vibe 'cause I wanted to do things that were not quite expected when it came to collaborations. And so he was like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' Apparently there are more Keys-Mayer songs in the can. "We vibed on like four or five songs, so those will come back," she said.
:: Miss Keys will perform two concerts in Spain next March to promote her new album. She will play at the Pavello Olimpic in Badalona (Barcelona) on March 16th followed up the day after with a gig at the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid. November 8, 2007
:: Everyone knows a hit song when they hear one and Alicia Keys' passionate, soulful new No. 1 single 'No One', would seem to qualify. Even the Grammy-winning, New York-born singer-songwriter-pianist sensed it when she wrote it. "I think you can feel the energy around the song when you're creating it and, if you're excited about it, then I find that's a good barometer that other people are going to be excited about it as well," said Keys, down the line from her home recently in an exclusive Canadian newspaper chat with Sun Media. "This album, I was influenced by an even greater array (of artists)," she said. "Prince and Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, and also I just discovered a really natural connection between R&B-soul, rock-soul, classical-soul. We put all these categories on music and what it is and what it isn't and whatever box it fits in and what chart it fits on. But it's so not like that, it's so connected, and that's what this album is for me." Read the full article on this page.

:: To say it's spectacular is an understatement. Keys, just six years in the music business, is one of the two or three reasons to even hope that pop has a future. Without her, Rob Thomas, John Legend and John Mayer, we would have to just pack up and go home. But Keys is different. The 14 tracks on 'As I Am' show a musical maturity and growth that are simply breathtaking. To read the first album review visit FoxNews.
:: I've added much more photos from Mtv TRL in Italy. Credit goes to mike123. Plus a couple more pics from Miss Keys' performance in Spain last week.

:: A heart-wrenching song only deserves an appropriate video, right? Well, according to Alicia Keys, it does. The piano-playing singer's next single is the weeping "Like You'll Never See Me Again", a touching tune of longing love mixed with the hopes for romantic last days should the feelings ever fade. The track, produced by Keys and her musical partner, Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, is the second single from her forthcoming album. Keys recently shot a video for "Again" and told MTV News about the concept behind the treatment. "It's a beautiful song," she explained last week at a black-tie benefit for Keep a Child Alive. "It's amazing. It's about living every moment as if it's your last. Because if it's our last time to say, 'I love you,' then let it be that we didn't forget that. "Oh boy," Keys added about the clip. "The video is heart-wrenching. If your heart doesn't feel me, then you are dead!" Since the release of Diary, Keys has said in interviews that, for the first time in her career, she's had to deal with more personal experiences between projects. But an excursion to Egypt, according to the singer, was one of the events that helped her deal with her tribulations and prompted her to begin work on As I Am, the name to which is a nod to her personal travels. "The meaning of my album title is really about being yourself," Keys said. "About freedom, about liberation, about breaking the rules, about doing the unexpected, about being excited, and exciting and learning more. And just becoming a better person, because that's what I'm being. It means 'take me as I am.' "

:: Alicia is back with a new album after a four-year gap from her previous album. And she now wants to be her own Superwoman. That included making the decision to holiday in Egypt to escape the madness around her. As she says: ' I just had to get away and free my mind, because I was feeling so bogged down and overwhelmed". But is there any weakness in the armour she wants to wear? 'What has weakened me in the past is love, because I have such a big heart to a fault,' she admits. November 5, 2007BBC Interview with Alicia
:: Alicia Keys, who has sold 25 million albums and won nine Grammy awards, is preparing to release her third studio album 'As I Am'.
BBC: What is the inspiration behind single No One? It's a belter of a song...
Alicia: I love No One so much. I love how you call that a belter! The most fun about the song is that whenever people sing it, everyone joins in at the top of their lungs. No One is that raw, strong yearning that when you have a good thing, you cannot let anything get in the way of it. Even when people or the situation may try to break you apart, no-one will get in the way of something special. I think that's why it's such a triumphant song, such a triumphant feeling. And by the time you get to the end and sing those "ooohs", you feel strong.
BBC: Is it about that special boyfriend or girlfriend?
Alicia: I have a very special relationship with a guy I have been with for a while. In my case it definitely is about that, and how sometimes people don't understand that, or people don't appreciate when you have got a good thing. Or maybe they're jealous of it, maybe they're envious of it. Whatever the case, you have to hold on to a good thing because they don't come often.

:: Tucked away within a bucolic Burbank, Calif., neighborhood is a maze of bungalows known as Glenwood Place Studios. In one of the front bungalows on a late afternoon in mid-September, Alicia Keys intently tapped away on a laptop computer. The singer was in town to film an episode of the new CBS series "Cane" and put the finishing touches on her third studio album, 'As I Am'. The quiet, calm setting belied the multitask-filled evening ahead. After speaking with Billboard, Keys would change from her jeans, apply makeup and prepare to film spots for BET. Right after that, she would conduct a private rehearsal with her band for the upcoming appearance on 'Cane'. Since Keys hit the ground running in 2001 with her first No. 1 J Records debut, "Songs in A Minor," industry observers predicted that the talented ingenue had staying power. Read more.

:: Alicia Keys put her music career on hold to care for her dying grandmother. Alicia said: "If I hadn't devoted all my time and energies to my grandmother I would be a terribly messed up person right now. I would be full of regret and really down on myself for that. I was able to spend some of the most precious time with her ever. The experience really made me grow up. I learnt a lot - about family, about who is there for me, who is not". The star believes the experience completely changed her as a person. She said: "It was a whole different lifestyle for me. Before I was like, 'Oh, I have to go to Miami? OK, I'm just going to hop on a plane tomorrow,' but things had to completely change. It was stressful and it was very hard on my spirit. So it was hard and it was joyful. It was bittersweet."

:: Watching Ruby Dee meet Alicia Keys is like watching a torch of elegance pass from one artistic generation to another. It feels warm, genuine and uplifting. It is precisely the kind of television that critics of the medium think networks should be producing more often. So the question, as always, is whether people will watch it - how many viewers will want to spend an hour watching two women talking about the meaning of art or the commonality between acting and singing as means of human expression. Whether they want to watch two women doing a call-and-response reading of a poem. Read the full review on NYDailyNews. Iconoclasts air today at 10pm on Sundance. And there are two short promo videos from the show: part 1 and part2. Thx to Trish for these!

:: Due to Hurricane Noel the Bahamas show has been canceled. More details to follow.
:: I think we have to clear something up. There was info on BMG site that Hollywood Bowl dvd would be released next month. Now that news is gone and some of the songs have been added to 'As I Am' CD & DVD box release. I'm a lil confused, cause if u are in AKFC you could see Karma performance included in 'Unlocked' dvd (the one from the package) and they clearly labeled 'from forthcoming Hollywood Bowl dvd'. :: Alicia was almost destroyed by her 'relentless' drive to succeed - and was only saved by her grandmother's battle with cancer. The Grammy Award-winning star spent years neglecting her personal life and her family in a desperate attempt to stay on top of the notoriously tough music industry. But it was only when her paternal grandmother became cripplingly ill with cancer last year that she forced herself to slow down. Speaking of the troubled time, Keys says, "That's exactly what it was. That's why I had to totally, completely stop. I'm used to constantly going on to the next thing, but I realised at that moment, 'Man, this is it, this is all I have.'"

:: "You know service is the best Prozac, or any drugs that are out there for stress. Service! It's cheap, it's good!" AIDS activist and Keep A Child Alive founder Leigh Blake told audiences yesterday at Conde Nast Black Ball in support of her organization. The Ball was held at New York's famous Hammerstein Ballroom and honored musician Bono. During the ceremony, a South African dance group performed a synthesis of traditional African dance and classical ballet to the beat of African drums. Ms. Blake was also joined by Alicia Keys, who co-founded Keep A Child Alive and performed at the ceremony. The young singer, decked out in head-to-toe Armani and a lot of black patent leather, said she was taking a very special date to the Bungalow 8-themed, Amy Sacco-designed after-party. "You know, I'm dating myself," she said in her deep, velvety voice. "This beautiful woman named Alicia, I'm dating her. Seriously! I'm getting to know her better. I'm taking her out, I'm taking her where she wants to go! She's learning new things and seeing new things. I think I like her." "It's incredible to be performing," she told The Daily Transom. "Keep a Child Alive is a passion of mine, and it's something I constantly want to yell out about, so that people can understand that we provide the medicine for children and families that have AIDS who wouldn't be able to afford it and that it's necessary to do that".

October 27, 2007Fashion Rocks backstage
:: While Jennifer Lopez's people arrange candles in the dressing room next door, I'm waiting to pray with Alicia Keys. The singer, songwriter and multimedia entrepreneur is not praying that her new album is well received. Keys has been so stonkingly successful at everything she has turned her hand to – music and beyond - that no celestial intervention will be required to kick-start the campaign for 'As I Am'. She has sold more than 20 million copies of the album's two predecessors, Songs In A Minor and The Diary Of Alicia Keys, and won a boatload of industry awards. Keys songs such as "Fallin'" and "A Woman's Worth", supreme examples of genre-transcending nu-soul and R&B, are modern standards. She was impressive, too, in her debut film role, playing a hitwoman in Smokin' Aces, a thriller released earlier this year; she underlines her range in The Nanny Diaries, a feel-good family movie in which she appears alongside Scarlett Johansson. She has published a book of her own poetry, and she and her manager have launched a production company in partnership with Disney (Big Pita, Little Pita, which stands for 'Big Pain In The Ass, Little Pain In The Ass') they will develop family-oriented movies and tv series, some of them vehicles for Keys. Read the full story on The Independent. Thx to txga for it!

:: David Bowie, Billie Joe Armstrong, Jay-Z, Clive Davis and Mike Mills of R.E.M. all made their way into New York's Hammerstein Ballroom last night for the Black Ball, an event sponsored by Keep a Child Alive to honor Bono, British actor Nick Reding and Dr. Pasquine Ogunsaya - individuals who've contributed significantly to the furthering of AIDS education and prevention in Africa. The event - part honors banquet, part pop concert - opened with thundering drums and hyper-kinetic dancing from Zulu troupe Juxtapower, whose lunges and kicks jump-started an evening that was long on both sentiment and showmanship. Debuting a hefty cache of songs from her forthcoming As I Am, KACA global ambassador Alicia served as a kind of de facto MC. She egged along the ten-piece band and took pains to connect her material to the evening's overriding theme. Her new songs are warm and relaxed, firmly rooted in gospel and late Sixties R&B. "Like You'll Never See Me Again" was a gorgeous slow-burner, built around a twinkling piano arpeggio and a melody that steadily swells. The empowerment anthem "Superwoman" was insistent and affecting, Keys spilling out its refrain, "Even when I'm a mess / I still put on the vest / with the 'S' on my chest" over spry, bounding chords. Her rendition of 'No One' felt triumphant, gaining a kind of power and determination with each pass through its chorus. If she could have taken on the rest of the night's performances alone, the super-charged Keys probably would have accepted the challenge. After a low-key rendition of "Every Day is a Winding Road" Sheryl Crow joined Keys for a duet on "I Shall Believe". The song is Crow's, but Keys swiftly claimed it, laying deep into its sinuous grooves and filling it with a kind of raw, pulsing ache. Gwen Stefani duetted with Keys on an elegiac version of "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" with Keys' vocals lingering in the air, long, haunting and elegant. Read the full article on Rolling Stone and check out new photos added to the Gallery. Big thx to Ewe for sending me many of them!

:: Common may have once told his love interest to "Come Close," but in his new clip for "I Want You," the Chicago MC is asking an old fling to back up, please. The video features Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Kerry Washington and others. In it, temptresses Keys and Washington harbor feelings for Com. But the nattily clad rapper has moved on from Washington. Problem is, she hasn't taken the hint, it seems. Nor has he, however, in a dark twist. "Alicia Keys plays my girlfriend and Kerry plays my ex. We definitely did it like a short film. You know, I'm into the whole film world, and Kerry is like my ex who is breaking into my crib while I'm having a dinner party. My dinner party is live, too - I got Serena Williams there, Derek Luke, Kanye's there, and [Washington] decides to break into my dinner party. So I have to find out what's going on. My ex is acting psycho. That's the story line. It gets kind of crazy, but it's good". Read more.

:: Alicia can understand why she was labeled a lesbian at the beginning of her career, because she was "rough around the ages". The singer's sexuality was the subject of much speculation after the release of her debut album Songs In A Minor. Keys is adamant she isn't gay but realises her appearance and attitude may have led people to draw their own conclusions. She says, "I was definitely rough around the edges. I look back at certain interviews and I'm like, 'Damn! Did I have to look that hard? Did I have to do my hair that way?. I could see why people couldn't see the diamond in the rough. I didn't take it to heart. I know what I am. I know it's not true".

:: Following a turbulent year in which she experienced the death of a loved one and general exhaustion, U.S. singer and musician, Alicia Keys, returns with a new album, As I Am. And it's clear that she's overcome her recent difficulties. "I went through a lot of self-discovery with this album," she said. "With the last album, I think I probably did a little too much. I did a lot of touring with that album and, from that, I went straight into shooting my first movie, Smoking Aces. It was an amazing experience, but it wasn't until I got home that I realised I was totally exhausted. And then, when I got home, somebody close to me got really ill, and I was the one that was really caring for her. So, I was going through this battle of: who can you trust in your family and who's really supportive?". Read the full article here.

:: This weekend should top Maria Nevarez's last trip to the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. "They asked her to name the one thing in the world that she would really like to do" her mother, Kate Nevarez, says of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western New York. "She really wanted to meet Alicia Keys." Nevarez picked a moving target, rather than a stationary one like the Great Barrier Reef. But Make-A-Wish has pinned down the hit R&B pianist and has arranged a meeting between the two. Nevarez, 18, and her family were scheduled to leave for New York City this morning [...] About 5:45 pm Monday, a limo arrives at the hotel for a ride to a recording studio to meet Keys. Nevarez's interest in Alicia's music, particularly the songs "Caged Bird" and "Diary" made this matchup a natural. Read the full article here.

:: Entertainment Wise reported that "Alicia was virtually unrecognizable as she attended the Swarovski Fashion Rocks bash in London last night sporting a slimmer figure. The usually curvaceous singer, looked as though she'd shed a few pounds as she rocked her daring outfit on the red carpet at the event. The RnB star - who performed her latest song 'No One' - was one of many artists who performed at the prestigious event". Do you think Alicia is slimmer or does she just look great in those black jeans? ;)

Wayne: 'My dream is to do something with Alicia Keys, but then Baby Cham already got that chance, but I've always been such a big fan of hers. I actually read that she was a fan of my music as well, and that was surprising because I didn't know that. So definitely Alicia Keys'. AllHipHop: Ya'll should make that happen. Have you heard her new song "No One"? It has a reggae feel to it'. Wayne: 'No, I haven't heard that. But I'd like to hear it. I know I think her father was Jamaican, so it's in her blood, you know? Maybe I should go by J Records and wait for her. [laughs]'. You can read the full interview here.

:: When she first stepped on the scene, Alicia Keys says she looked 'rough around the edges.' But now that's all changed. Gracing the November issue in a seductive, strawberry- red gown suspended in mid-air, Keys talks about her six-year, secret love, and how she overcame depression. The soul sensation says she is back stronger than ever with a newfound confidence as she releases her latest cd, 'As I Am'. Alicia shares with Ebony who she is, and reveals to her fans where she is going. For almost six years, Alicia accepted nearly every offer that came her way - performances, appearances, trips, interviews, meetings, award shows, you name it. She showed up, on time, always with a smile on her face. And she delivered her unique brand of entertainment brilliantly, again and again and again. "My life got so crazy very quickly," the nine-time Grammy winner acknowledges, "and I didn't know when it was safe for that wall to be down. It became a bit like a mask I was wearing. I took that mask off this year and realized how instrumental that was for me, that I could have balance between it all". You can check this page to watch behind the scenes of Miss Keys' shoot. Here are real scans from the magazine sent by Samme. Thank you so much! Now you can read the full article, enjoy!

:: Alicia Keys has vowed never to portray a piano-playing singer on the big screen in a bid to avoid typecasting as her movie career takes off. The singer, who made her debut in 2006 movie Smokin' Aces, and appeared alongside Scarlett Johansson in the recent The Nanny Diaries, wants to be recognised as a serious actress. She says, "I was not interested in playing the singing piano player or part of the girl group. "I wanted to do what required me to show my acting skills, so I could set the tone for my career."

:: It's been a minute but Alicia Keys is back in the spotlight. You gotta wait till November to get her new album 'As I Am', but you can check her shoot from Complex current issue right now. Spend some time with Alicia Keys, and you just feel good. Not like trailer-for-Garfield 2 'I Feel Good' good but red-wine-and-kush good. Calm good. It's a sense of serenity that belies her popstar schedule. Since Keys started supplementing her day job as a strikingly beautiful chanteuse with a burgeoning acting career, knocking down roles in Smokin' Aces (by the way, a quick thank you to the Aces costume designer) and The Nanny Diaries, things have been a little busy.  We caught up with her to talk about her career, how far she's come since rolling with Heathcliff Huxtable (she looked all grown up in Smokin' Aces but she got her start chilling on the Cosby Show) and the release of her album As I Am. Check out a few excerpts from her interview:
• On dealing with the pressures of fame:
I'm not the chick that breaks down, I'm not the one who loses it and wilds out, that's not my thing.
• On finding herself on top of an Egyptian tomb:
I needed to get out of town and clear my head, I went to Egypt. It was such a miraculous experience for me. I crawled to the top of the pyramid and I just sang at the top of my lungs right there. People walking in acted like I was crazy; I didn't care. When I came home, I wanted to abandon all the tat stuff about me feeling too vulnerable to collaborate with people. Forget that.
• On her idea of a good date:
I like to do things just because the thought came in your mind. I like to maybe go to the planetarium, crazy late at night. I love when a dude is cool with going to the museum with me, especially if it's an interesting exhibit. I'm not just trying to go see dead white people. [Laughs]
Be sure to check out these amazing photos and visit Complex magazine site to watch cover shoot video. I'll try to get it for you to download asap.

:: "I think we're trying to make activism cool again for kids". So said comedian Chris Rock, who was among a host of celebs including U2 frontman Bono, Alicia Keys and Shakira to join former President Bill Clinton at Harlem's historic Apollo Theater for a roundtable forum on youth activism Saturday night that was sponsored by Mtv. After wrapping up a three-day summit during which his foundation, the Clinton Global Initiative, won major commitments from philanthropists to address some of the globe's most pressing problems, the ex-prez teamed up with the cable network for a lively bash that mixed music and politics to fire up youth to take action on issues they care about. If it was showtime at the Apollo, it was also Bill's time to inspire. "We're here tonight because young people here have more opportunity than ever before to change history," said Clinton, who just released his latest tome aptly titled Giving: How Each of Us Can Change The World. To that end, last night's panel and concert titled "Giving - Live at the Apollo - put the spotlight on the initiatives of some of his famous do-gooder friends as examples for what today's Internet Generation can do if they just put their mind to it. Read the full story on E! News. Here are photos of Alicia arriving at Apollo Theater.

:: Jessica was so kind to have sent me Clive Davis' Recording Academy Award Presentation Speech to Alicia. Here it is: "She is a young renaissance woman. She writes music; she arranges music, she produces music. But there's more than that, much more than that. She touches people’s hearts and souls. Her music is honest. Her music is pulsating. Her music is melodic. Walk down the street of any city in the world and you’re apt to hear someone singing one of her songs. She is also a poet of the streets and already one of the best ambassadors to the world that music has ever had. I would venture to say that if you took a poll of people all over the world to choose what musician under 30, no under 40, best exemplifies the highest quality of contemporary music, she would be the choice by a landslide. She’s learned to give back from the day she had anything to give back. Her 'Keep A Child Alive' charity exemplifies what is clearly her mantra: Aim as high as you can and make sure you deliver and hit the target. I could go on and talk about her nine Grammys and the millions of albums she’s already sold around the world with only three albums having been released. But that is already well known and she is more special than that. Tonight is more special than that. I'll just summarize by saying that after all my years in the music industry, I’m prouder than ever that I'm a part of the industry because she is in it. I know that everyone in this room knows that there’s no musical revolution going on right now. There’s too much conformity, too much imitation, too much embarrassing and demeaning and childish behavior. And then, on the other hand, there’s this young woman who will not conform, who will not be pigeonholed, who understands the beautiful history of music, soulful music, classical music, jazz, blues, hip hop music and is proudly translating our culture, with freshness, originality, dignity, and an eye full of twinkles and fire to millions all over the world. What a great choice the Recording Academy has made and what a pleasure it is for me to present tonight the 2007 Recording Academy Honors Award to Alicia Keys".

September 29, 2007
:: Alicia Keys has admitted that she's been so moved by music she's broken down in tears. "Absolutely, I've cried from a song before," the award-winning musician told us on the red carpet, as she got ready to receive an award from the New York Recording Academy. "I cried from this classical song that was played in the movie Philadelphia. I can't remember the song (it was La Mamma Morta by Maria Callas), but that part where he (Tom Hanks' character) was just spinning around and that classical song playing got me, and I just cried my eyes out". Meanwhile, Alicia is appearing in new film The Nanny Diaries. And she confessed to having a bad babysitting experience of her own in her past. "I was watching a kid one time. I was babysitting when I was 12, he was like three and he ate a handful of pennies," Alicia admitted. "I just went 'Oh my God!' I said to Ma, 'Oh my God, he just ate all these pennies, what should I do?' And she said, 'Don't worry, it'll come out the other end'."
:: Quick Reminder: A roundtable discussion on the state of youth activism will take place today at the Apollo Theater in New York. It will be titled "Giving - Live at the Apollo." The discussion will be moderated by Sway and include former President Bill Clinton, U2's Bono, Alicia Keys, Shakira, and Chris Rock as participants. Each participant will discuss ways in which they have influenced change on social issues. They will also invite young people present to partner with them on a new initiative designed to improve communities and make a difference in the lives of people in some of the poorest areas of the world. Live performances by Alicia Keys and Shakira are also planned. For more details, visit the Clinton Global Initiative.

:: Cane is the "muy caliente" drama from CBS that's a cross between Dallas and The Sopranos, with a powerful cast headed by Jimmy Smits to pull off some sweet ratings. We were invited on the set the day Alicia Keys shot a couple of scenes for an upcoming episode of Cane. The lovely Grammy-winner looked right at home, and had fun soaking up the atmosphere at the Thom, Thom night club location in Santa Monica, which doubled as a South Miami hot spot. Alicia played herself, but still had to act like she was flirting with Henry Duque, who runs the club. As the director blocked her scenes, she was surrounded by dozens of sweaty dancers getting their groove on at the jam-packed club with music blaring away. Alicia’s band members were there kidding around with her, that the scene lacked all the action that she saw in the Smokin’ Aces, shoot-em-up film. Yeah, she really was a kick-butt babe in that. But on the set of Cane, it was her voice that proved to be the most powerful force, when she took the stage to sing 'No One', a cut from her new album that will be released next month. Electrifying the tiny stage at the club, Alicia sat at the piano and showed the same brilliant talent that made her a multiple Grammy winner for her albums 'Songs in A Minor' and 'Diary of Alicia Keys" Everyone burst into genuine applause after she finished her live performance. Read more.
:: Check out Insider Online to watch a short interview with Miss Keys on the set of 'No One' video. She tells the song is "about any relationship that you have with a lover. Things will try to get in the way, but you will not let anything break it up". Here are some captures.

:: There was a proud moment in store for Alicia Keys' mum Terri this week when she saw her talented daughter presented with a top New York music award. The 26-year-old singer who clearly shares a close bond with her mum - was accompanied by her biggest fan when she went along to a gala dinner honouring those making a contribution to the music scene. The nine-times Grammy Award winning star - whose new album hits shops on November 12 - has often spoken of the support she has received from her parent in the course of her career. "My mum just helped me stay focused" she says of Terri, who raised her daughter single-handed in New York.

:: She likes walks on the beach, sunsets, red wine, good conversation with "someone very special". Those are some of the ingredients of what musician extraordinaire Alicia Keys would call her "perfect day". In an interview with celeb TV show The Insider for a segment due to air tonight, Keys reveals the man she is looking for. And, hey, it could be you... "I look for somebody [who is] interesting. I look for somebody [who] really has something to say. Somebody who is varied in their likes and dislikes and has great opinions and is driven." Keys has a post-Einsteinian view of fame. "I think that fame is relative," she says. "When I wake up in the morning I don't look at myself and say, 'Wow, I'm famous'.

:: Monium was so kind and posted a thread on AKO Board, read on: "Alicia was on Tom Joyner Morning Show today. So, she, of course, talked about the VMAs last night, and she addressed Kid Rock and Tommy Lee fighting during her performance. She called the incident "foolishness," and said that she prays all of the time, but, she just so happened to pray right before she went onstage. She said that she prayed that any negative energy that would surround her during the performance would be removed from the room, so about about half way through her performance that negative energy was removed from the room. lol!! It was a cute interview, it was kind of short because she only called in to premiere "No One." But, she also said that she willl be going out on the road in January. And they asked her how long she'd be out on the road, and she was like, "Forever." And then she said that she will be doing another movie around the beginning of next year, but that music is always first. They asked her how her mother felt about her acting - since she is, of course, an actress. And AK said:"My mother loves it. She was like 'Get It, Girl'. So, basically, other than that, the interview was filled with them trying to get her to preform at the cruise that they do every year. They were like, "Almost everybody has perform on our cruise over the past few years except for you." So, she said that she'd see what she could do about that. Oh, and they complimented her on her performance and how beautiful she looked. So, all in all, it was a very positive interview. Alicia seemed happy and upbeat and it was just really good to hear her voice". Thanks so much for sharing with us Monium!

:: At midnight on a Monday in late July, the day was far from over for Alicia Keys. That morning the Jamaican bassist and producer Robbie Shakespeare, from the duo Sly and Robbie, had flown in from Miami for a session at the Oven: a house on Long Island that Ms. Keys and her producing partner, Kerry (Krucial) Brothers, have converted into a complex of recording and mixing studios. She spent the afternoon rehearsing with her band in Weehawken, N.J., then headed back to the Oven for a late-night mixing session. "I love my spot," she said proudly as she offered a visitor a tour, wearing wraparound sunglasses and a "Born to Be Wild" T-shirt. "It looks like Grandmas house." From the outside it did. But beyond its parlor the Oven was a warren of clean, well-equipped studios on three floors. Photos of Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley and other old-school figures presided from the walls. Its where she made her next album, "As I Am", working at her own pace. Due for release on Nov. 13, "As I Am" will be her first studio album since she released "The Diary of Alicia Keys" in 2003, and Ms. Keys has been describing it as "rebellious" at every opportunity. "I just was really adamant about doing things that were not expected," she said. While some of its songs reaffirm her connection to 1960s and 70s soul, others lean closer to rock - from the Beatles to U2 - than she has before. Read the full article on NY Times. You can also listen to Alicia talking about her music and personality.
:: Benny found 2 pics from London performance in July this year, so I'm posting these. Thx baby!

:: The connection between fashion and rock is a mercurial one, no matter how hard Mischa Barton and Tommy Hilfiger try to explain its obviousness. The reality is sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. So it's no wonder that the "Fashion Rocks" benefit was pretty hit-and-miss with its unexpected artist pairings or cover version choices. [...] Santana's duet with Alicia Keys on "Black Magic Woman," however, was a sultry thrill. Keys was even better on her own, showcasing her new single "That's The Thing About Love" which transformed from a gorgeous piano ballad to a massive, stadium-worthy anthem and back again. Read the full article here.
:: Videos from Fashion Rocks are ready to download. Quality isn't too good, but I will try add better one later. I just wanted to give it to you as fast as I could :) Click here to get 'Black Magic Woman' and here to get 'That's The Thing About Love'. Thx to my girl Trish for finding these!

:: Alicia Keys returns with her long-awaited third studio album, As I Am, set for a worldwide release on November 13 on J Records. Within 10 hours of being serviced to radio, Alicia first single, "No One," became one of the fastest moving and highest charting single on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. This also marks the highest first single debut for a female artist in 2007 on the R&B Monitor's Urban Mainstream chart! "No One" was written and produced by Keys, longtime collaborator Kerry "Krucial" Brothers and Dirty Harry. The Justin Francis/The Saline Project- directed video for "No One" was recently shot in LA and will premiere on national video outlets on September 17. One of the few artists who can capture an old-school vibe and make if feel refreshingly new, Alicia tackles this feat once again with an album she describes as "Janis Joplin meets Aretha Franklin." Punctuated with rich powerful vocals, Alicia's vocal muses can be felt on songs ranging from the anthemic "Superwoman" and power-charged "Go Ahead" to the misty-eyed ballad "Like You Never See Me Again" and the soulful "Sure Looks Good To Me." Tonight on CBS's Fashion Rocks, Alicia mesmerizes the audience with a soul-stirring performance of "The Thing About Love" and joins the incredible Santana in an amazing duet of "Black Magic Woman." Keys will also rock the MTV VMA on September 9 with a national televised debut performance of her new hit single "No One." Read more. Thx to SmartyPants.

:: I've got email from Bernard and he wrote: "Hey, Alicia was on KISS radio station last night and she had a phone conversation with the host Keith Sweat. She was in rehearsal when she called, but she said that from September to December she would be hitting up small venues to perform in intimate settings. Then her tour starts in January. She is really anxious and excited. She also introduced "No One" to radio and said it was about having an "unbreakable" love or connection with a spouse, sibling, parent, friend, to the point where No One can break you two up! She expressed her love for the song!". Thx so much for info, Bernard!

:: John Mayer couldn't say enough about the fun he had working with Alicia Keys on her upcoming album. Mayer got all soppy in a recent blog on his website. "We wrote a song called 'Lesson Learned', and it was one of the best creative experiences I've ever had," John wrote. "Oh, and her lead-off single 'No One' is the track of the year. That's all there is to it. It'll blow you away when you hear it. She's evolved so much as an artist, it's crazy! She's made one beautiful and brave album. Okay, okay! That's enough slobbering over Alicia!" he gushed.
:: New York Fashion Week kicks off on September 5, but the city will really rock on Thursday September 6 at Fashion Rocks. :: The tragic death of a close friend forced soul singer Alicia Keys to stop acting like a performance diva. The Fallin' singer admits she started taking her family and friends for granted as her famous life and studio and touring work took over - and then a tragedy made her rethink. Keys tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Maybe God knew I needed an extreme situation to help me understand what's real. "Everytime I'd wake up, I'd get dressed and put on my little facade, like, 'Everything's great. I've got these shows going on, I just finished this film.' (There were) all these f**king interview answers to the point where I'd give interview answers to my family."
:: Here are several new live journal icons made by me.
