:: Alicia Keys is stunned her teenage romance has made national headlines in America
after actress pal Clare Danes revealed the pair dated the same guy on TV. Danes
told Mtv she and Keys had both romanced Billy Cherry in high school, and revealed
the Fallin' singer is still in touch with her childhood sweetheart. And, appearing
on Mtv's TRL show on Thursday, Keys admitted the fuss over what Danes told America
is amazing. She said, "I can't believe this... Clare Danes and I went to
school together in junior high... and that's how I know her, and there was this
guy there, named Billy. "He was a really nice guy and I actually still know
him now. "I think at some point, somewhere, she may have kind of either liked
him or went out with him and at some point I kind of liked him and went out with
him, so I think that connected us in some way. "But I can't believe that's
a big national story right now. Billy, you did it!" Keys went on to reveal
she "has a thing for Billys" - her first kiss was with another Billy.
:: It looks like Alicia is in London right now. Added two photos from Prince's

::
Even when she's talking about her vulnerability, Alicia Keys sounds perfectly
poised. She discusses the twin crises that produced her new album, As I Am, in
concise, articulate nuggets. She's rebelling against the "stone wall"
that she turned herself into during the four-year run from debut album Songs in
A Minor through 2005's Unplugged. That was about "protection," she says,
but it got "to the point where I don't even know what was wrong with me,
because I couldn't put words to it, because I was so good at being a stone wall.
And it was driving me crazy." Exhausted and unable to say no to anyone, Keys
decided she was tired of being superwoman (and wrote a song about it, too): "I
was always holding up the building. Put it on your shoulders and hold it up, and
staple it, glue it. But damn it, sometimes shit has to fall apart." She realized
that "I can't be everybody's savior. Who's gonna save me?". That question
acquired extra resonance when a close family member fell ill, and the burden of
care fell on Keys: "To see one so strong become so sick, and having to constantly
be faced every day with mortality
It became my responsibility. It really
showed me who can stand up when it's necessary, and who can't." She has suffered,
she has processed, and she has emerged stronger than before; this is very much
in keeping with the Keys appeal. In 2001, she arrived, almost fully formed, at
the center of a commercially humungous Venn diagram composed of one part sincere
neo-soul, one part Oprah-esque self-examination (she appeared on the show early),
one part bohemian uplift (her tough Hell's Kitchen roots), and one part American
Idol brashness (the Clive Davis connection; a certain stridency). Keys is adept
at the confessional mode, at tracing an emotional arc while revealing few specifics,
leaving space for the listener. (She's funny, charming, and down-to-earth, and
she conducts our entire interview in black sunglasses.) When she first started
recording As I Am, the music that came out was "very strange," Keys
says. "The music was very harsh and heavy and black and loud. I didn't understand
it." I would like to hear that music. But Keys, who describes her recording
process as "diligent," kept working; she was afraid no one would get
this material. So As I Am is not going to shock anyone. But it will satisfy her
audience and move her artistic trajectory forward just enough. The musical landscape
has shifted since Keys arrived. A generation of futuristic female R&B singers
has emerged, while she's still experimenting with Moogs and Mellotronsthe
sound of tomorrow, circa 1967. This reverence for tradition, though, is no mere
crutch. The best track, the Linda Perryproduced "Thing About Love,"
is about Keys's journey toward self-love, but the lyrics are general enough to
reflect anyone's romantic travails. As her piano rock and rolls, Keys unleashes
earthy passion that does indeed sound "as if Aretha Franklin was to sing
'Cry Baby' by Janis Joplin," which is how Keys describes her vision of the
album. In a digital world, she is hopelessly analog; the thing is, so are most
of the rest of us. Don't forget to read more in New York Magazine Fall Issue.
It will be available to buy on September 3.

:: Today will be the world premiere of 'The Nanny Diaries' so later you can expect
new Alicia pictures. So far I've collected some movie reviews: Tv
Guide, Charlotte,
SeattlePi,
Metromix,
Washington
Post, The
New York Post, Variety,
LA
Times, USA
Today, USA
Today, EW,
NY Mag. As
you can see 'The Nanny Diaries' didn't get too many good reviews, but hey, it's
a comedy for teenagers, so don't look for any deeper meaning. It is supposed to
be purely for fun and entertainment of the kids. What the crucial thing is here,
for us - Alicia fans - is that she is in the movie and that's it :)

:: In her short acting career, Alicia Keys has been very careful with her choices,
taking roles that play against type, such as an action turn in "Smokin' Aces"
or her latest in "The Nanny Diaries". She's always been hesitant to
go the expected route for someone with a Grammy-loaded background. "I've
been pretty dead set on not doing a musical role," she told us today. Explaining
her rationale, she said, "I want to be known for the ability to act as opposed
to only [having the] ability to play someone that's familiar to me or close to
my life". However, all of that is about to change. Asked if she would take
on a musically inclined acting role at this point, she confided, "There is
one in my head but I can't tell you. It's this close to being solidified".
Her enthusiasm rising, Keys said, "If ever I've dreamed about something,
it's this [role]. It happens to be a mixture of both worlds. She is an entertainer".

:: Here is email I've got from French Alicia fan, titouille24: "I
found two news with quotations of Alicia from french press (I resume and traduce
that): I had news of Alicia's album more on the spirit of this album than on its
artistic composition! First of all this album is marked by the fact that Alicia
found in the music a remedy. Indeed the year 2006/2007 was not very easy for her,
she says to us on this subject without revealing us the cause of her evil to be:
"I needed the music more than it needed a me. I surfed on roller coasters
this year, but I made what I had to make. I found the beauty in the dark moments.
" Furthermore during an interview given in our capital where she offered
to the journalists a small private show, where she says to us simply that this
album is also marked by more maturity, and always tinged with its experiences(experiments)
of which some were new as the cinema, to this subject Alicia tells us: "
I had so things to be told and to be drawn by my past experiences. It began with
my last album with which I turned a lot and I moved on with the shooting of the
film 'Smokin Aces'. I worked too much, took myself for a superwoman! But of return
to me, I learned that a close was very sick and I realized my priorities in the
life. " During this interview she also revealed a title of her (new album
"No. one" with arrangements rather reggae and recorded in Paris! And
she announced the end of the realization of the album for in two weeks! In summary,
Alicia approached this album with more maturity and depth than two others, by
adducing to deviate from her soul usual style, rnb to go towards the rock, and
the funk! She simply wanted to try new styles, to shock the public
,
and so to become according to her "a mixture of Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin
and Wu-Tang Clan". During another interview and this time not concerning
the album, she confided: "Even if we find finally a person whom we trust,
I do not believe that we can be totally honest. There are certain parts of us
which refuses to obey and to be allowed go. I believe that we always need this
place, where there are only our thoughts, the most intimate, and any judgment
of whoever". Thank you for sharing titouille24! Here is a scan from
the French newspaper "Le Parisien" scanned by Nébuleuse &
donated by Ynohtno, thx guys! Click on thumb.

:: Alicia has revealed she's "dying" to work with her favourite band
The White Stripes. The soul singer, who also admitted the Stripes' latest album
'Icky Thump' is her favourite LP of the year, tried to get Jack and Meg to guest
on her new album 'As I Am'. She revealed: "I'm dying to work with them. Me
and The White Stripes are going to do something crazy. We tried to work something
out for this record, but the timing got a little crazy and it didn't come off.
I know we can do something next time around." And the Stripes are not the
only. She added: "I'm dying to work with Queens Of The Stone Age too. Both
bands have a very simple approach to music, but it has a soul to it that I totally
get. If we did something together, it would be incredible." Keys' forthcoming
album, out in November, sees the star team up with Mayer and Linda Perry. Six
songs from the album were premiered at a low-key playback party on Monday night
(July 23). Keys then surprised the small crowd of journalists by playing three
more songs at a piano. The star performed 'Superwoman', 'That's The Thing About
Love' and 'Sure Looks Good To Me'.

:: When it comes financial success at the box office, you have to strike gold
on opening weekend because with from then on the numbers go down. So, in the seizing
the best opportunity available, the Weinstein Co. will now release "The Nanny
Diaries" on August 24th, instead of Sept. 7. The film stars Scarlett Johansson,
Alicia Keys, and Laura Linney. Based on the best-selling novel by Emma McLaughlin
and Nicola Kraus this is the story of nine frantic months in the life of a young
woman impulsively hired to care for the neglected 4-year-old son of a pampered
wife and her near-absentee husband, whose marriage begins to disintegrate during
the period. The young nanny is aptly named Nan and will be the role Scarlett will
be in charge or occupying as she juggles the household's marital woes, her classes,
a romance and a spoiled kid. Keys plays her best friend, Lynette.
July 20, 2007
:: John Mayer talked about working with Alicia Keys on her upcoming album on his
official web site's blog on Thursday (July 19). "Alicia and I finally found the
time to finish writing a track for her upcoming album... I have never had a better
time collaborating in the studio. The song's called "Lesson Learned" and I can't
wait for the world to hear it. This is probably about as obvious as telling you
the sky is blue, but Alicia is the most authentic artist of our generation...
She's strong where she needs to be...Not just strong as a woman (there are many
strong women out there) but strong as an artist (there are few, regardless of
gender). She has the vision DOWN and doesn't waste time getting there. I collect
stickers. I think the record "drops" in October. Called 'As I Am." Insert witty
closing line about her being just fine that way." Click the thumbnails below to
view some pictures taken in the studio.

:: Apparently Disney isn't the only animation studio pushing for an African-princess
character. They announced last year that the lead of their movie The Princess
and the Frog would be their first African character, with Anika Noni Rose voicing
the character. Now Imagine Pictures in on their tail with The African Princess
and a princess of their own: Alicia Keys.
A
press release from Imagine Pictures has announced that Alicia Keys will voice
the lead character of The African Princess, Princess Zya. The young African princess
loses her family and is displaced without her memory, but her childhood companion
Neebo, helps her remember her heritage and rise up to lead her kingdom. The press
release goes a little overboard about the picture, talking about how supporters
are already proclaiming it a beautiful and enriching tale, destined to go on to
be one of the greatest animated films of the century, and that the picture is
already receiving tons of support and invitations to film festivals across the
country. Odd, then, that the movie has no listing at IMDb and not an actual frame
of animation has been seen. The only released images are that of Zya (on the right)
and Neebo. What are these “supporters” basing an opinion on? Then again, press
releases are supposed to build excitement, so I guess its just doing its job.
Alicia Keys is a good casting choice to anchor this kind of story, though, if
for no other reason than the fact that her musical crowd will follow her career

:: John Mayer gave it up that he's been spending a lot of quality time lately
with Alicia Keys. "Shouldn't I be saying something like, 'I'm doing a duet
with ODB's old tapes' or something?" he joked. "I've got to shock you
with who I'm working with so you can say, 'John Mayer working with Alicia Keys,
the Fray and Carrot Top? Say it ain't so!'. Mayer and Keys have "birthed"
a couple of songs together so far, he said, and they plan to "jump back into
the ring" before the end of May to finish them up. "Some might grow
up to be doctors, and some might grow up to be riff-raff," he said. "We're
trying to send at least one to medical school." Mayer's so impressed with
Keys that he called their sessions "like being in the mother brain of soul
music." "This is absolute artistic fusion from top to bottom and I don't
think there's anyone else in the world that I could do that with right now."

:: Sounds like Alicia Keys finally has her much-anticipated third studio album
cookin' on a front burner. The multi-Grammy-winning singer's reps recently announced
that because she's been busy in recent months concentrating on her acting commitments,
the street date of her new CD was being pushed back from June to October. Now,
however, "She's in a musical cocoon working on her ideas for the new album,"
reports Ray Chew, a regular collaborator of the songstress. Chew says he doesn't
believe Keys' record label "is trying to tie her into a delivery date. I
think they're allowing Alicia to do what Alicia does, write her songs and create
her great recordings. She's proven to be an artist you can put out any time and
she'll sell". Read
