:: In "The Nanny Diaries" a movie based on Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus' novel, Scarlett Johansson plays Nan, a Park Avenue au pair. And she looks ridiculous doing it. In the book, Nan's a Chapin School alum majoring in child development at NYU. The movie version is different; it starts with Johansson moving out of her New Jersey home and in to the Park Avenue pad of Mr. and Mrs. X, the parents of Nan's snot-nosed 4-year-old charge. Sultry songstress Alicia Keys, in a less offensive combination of cowboy boots, a tank top and skirt, plays her best friend. Read the full article here.

:: Scarlett Johansson and co-star Alicia Keys were sporting striking new looks in New York this week. The platinum-haired actress had swopped her bombshell locks for a decidedly more demure brown 'do, while her trademark sexy dresses had been replaced by casual shorts. Alicia was similarly transformed, with a mop of unruly curls and floral outfit that were a world away from her more familiar sleek on-stage persona. The new styles are only temporary, however, as the pair were hard at work on the set of their latest film, The Nanny Diaries, which is due out next year. The satirical comedy features Scarlett as a working class college student who goes to work as a nanny with a rich Manhattan family. In the new flick, R&B sensation Alicia flexes her acting muscles as Scarlett's best friend, alongside co-stars Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti. Fresh from shooting Smokin' Aces with Ben Affleck and Don Cheadle, the 25-year-old singer-turned-thesp looks set to consolidate her fledgling on-screen career with the two high-profile flicks. Here are first photos from 'The Nanny Diaries' film set in NYC with Scarlett Johannson, check them out! Alicia looks so pretty! <3

:: Alicia Keys was clearly in the mood for celebration when she took centre stage at a bash in her native New York this week. The 26-year-old was on bubbly form at the event, chatting excitedly and dancing the night away with a roll-call of her music industry friends. She was centre of everyone's attention at the exclusive bash in Manhattan's Tribeca Rooftop venue. The soiree was staged to mark the launch of her new collaboration with producer and rumoured boyfriend Kerry Brothers. The pair have teamed up on a new website called Krucialkeys on which they are both releasing new albums. She is obviously over the moon with the venture. "It's definitely the wave of the future," she explained. "You can maintain control, you don't have to sacrifice the quality of music that you do." John Legend and Terrence Howard were among the celebs who went along to congratulate the pretty chanteuse. And Alicia's foray into the world of MP3 publishing isn't the only pot she has on the boil, as she is also hoping to make her mark as a stage actress. Having recently made her big screen debut opposite Ray Liotta and Ben Affleck in the crime caper Smokin' Aces, the acclaimed performer has now set her sights on the theatre. :: Will you help us Keep a Child Alive? Fam Hands United is made up of Alicia Keys fans who have made the choice to BE the change that's necessary to make our world a better place. Right now FHU has over 150 members from all over the world, all having the same goal: spread the word and raise awareness on issues that matter to all of us. One of the issues that FHU is focused on right now is HIV/AIDS. The project we are currently working on is our first official fund-raising effort. We are doing this in conjunction with Keep a Child Alive (KCA). KCA is a non profit organisation that focuses on providing life-saving AIDS medicines directly to children and families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and other impoverished countries. Our goal is to, by the end of February, donate a total amount of $10,000 to this organisation. Right now we are over $8,000 and well on our way to reaching our goal. Alicia is aware of our massive efforts and is supporting us 100%! Every little donation we can get means a lot to us and brings us a step closer to our final goal. Just imagine how many children and families we are going to be helping. The feeling is priceless! So please, won't you help us BE the change we all want to see in our world? For more information on how to get started with FHU or on how to make a one time donation, hit us up at famhandsunited@yahoo.com.

February 14, 2006  Happy Valentine's Day!
:: Nothing says "I love you" like diamonds. But if times are a little tight (or you're only 90 percent sure you're in love), a mixtape can say almost as much. Of course, the key is choosing the right songs. And to best serve the hopeful Romeos in our audience, we asked a hodgepodge of stars and music-business types to help us assemble the perfect Valentine's Day mix CD. Here is what Kerry "Krucial" Brothers says: "I would put the Isley Brothers' 'Voyage to Atlantis.' Just the whole vibe of it - and the ocean. It's just kind of like an imaginary place to be - paradise, old empire or whatever it was - that's unseen now." Read more.

The Fallin' hitmaker, who asked Legend to open her tour last year, has huge admiration for the artist's authenticity. She says, "He's special. He's a person that plays and sings and writes his own music, he's not trying to keep up with the Joneses. There's nothing more special than to see an artist playing his own music. I think a lot of people are seeking it out - the truth of it." Legend leads the nominations at this week's Grammys with eight apiece, alongside Mariah Carey and Kanye West.

:: The invites have gone out to Clive Davis' famous and impossible-to-get-into pre-Grammy dinner. This year it's at the Beverly Hilton Ballroom, and "The Entertainment Will Be Major!" promises the invite. In fact, the "unannounced" performers definitely include Jamie Foxx and Alicia Keys, and perhaps Santana or Rod Stewart. The physical invite is a sumptuous thing of beauty, a heavy diploma-like folder dressed in black silk with gold lettering. It even has a hidden message floating in a buried hologram: "Quite viply, the most fabulous music event of the year". Grammy Awards will take place on Wednesday, February 8, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network at 8 pm.

:: Alicia Keys would not confirm to Jane magazine whether or not she's dating her songwriter/producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, but reveals she has been in a committed relationship with a significant other for a while now and can see herself starting a family with that person. Saying she’s relived not to be single, Keys tells the magazine: "I think about how uncomfortable I would feel trying to find love among so much falseness. So I feel very, very, very blessed to have someone special to me". Meanwhile, Krucial is busy at work on his own solo rap project, but it’s not "another R&B producer-turned-rapper scenario," Brothers tells Billboard. "It's the other way around." After meeting Keys at open-mic sessions around New York, their friendship blossomed into a creative partnership as co-owners of Krucial Keys Enterprises. Now Brothers feels its time to revert back to his rap roots. Read more.

:: While the music of Alicia Keys will always have Soul and R&B at its core, the singer/piano player is already planning to branch out a bit more on her next album. "I definitely see the album being a little bit edgier," she recently told Billboard.com. "I feel like it's going to have a lot of political elements to it as well and be a bit more guitar-driven. The sound is definitely going to be different, but obviously the heart and soul of it is always going to remain consistent." Keys is looking for some unexpected collaborators to help her achieve this new sound. She would like to work with more musicians outside of the Hip-Hop and R&B world, with John Mayer being at the top of her list. "I'd also like to do something that's really out there, with like Queens Of The Stone Age or White Stripes, something just strange as hell, unexpected and interesting," Keys said. "I always like to collaborate with one or two special folks that just take it to a new place. I have a lot of strange ideas and brainstorms." Billboard also reports that Keys recently recorded three new songs, including the title cut and a cover of The Impressions' "People Get Ready" with Lyfe Jennings, for the soundtrack to the movie Glory Road. The film chronicles the 1966 Texas Western men's basketball team, which featured the first all-African American starting lineup. And, as previously reported, she is developing a new television show based on her childhood in New York City.

:: Alicia Keys is branching outside of music, with upcoming projects in film and television and a newly formed production company with her longtime manager, Jeff Robinson. The first venture for Big Pita, Lil' Pita is an as-yet-untitled UPN drama. The show will be loosely based on Keys' life as a multiracial child; her mother is Irish-Italian and her father is Jamaican. "It tells the real story of a young girl trying to find her way - being in a new high school, trying to establish a relationship with her father and his new family, and the troubles that her mother is going through to try to raise her," Keys previously told Billboard.com of the track. "We had all these meetings in the beginning, and I would share some stories in my life and things that I felt and had been through. They used that and turned it into an idea for the pilot". Even with her numerous endeavors, Keys plans to stay actively involved in the show's production. "I'm definitely going to want to read every script and know the direction and the feeling just to make sure it's true to me and true to life," she says. "If my name goes with it, then I just want to ensure it's exactly what I feel." In her big screen debut, "Smokin' Aces," due later this year, Keys worked alongside actors Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Jeremy Piven, among others. The singer says she pulled from her own life experiences to play the role of an assassin. "It was freeing, to be honest with you," says Keys. "It was so good to be able to express a side of myself that we all suppress, which is that of rage or anger, and I think it was healthy. I'm also in the process of developing the next movie I'm going to be a part of, so that's very exciting".
:: I've just made cute aim icons, you can use them if you want :)

January 21, 2006
:: Known for his work with Alicia Keys, songwriter/producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers is stepping out from behind the control boards with his own solo rap project. But this is not "another R&B producer-turned-rapper scenario," Brothers insists. "It's the other way around." It was at open-mic sessions around New York where the journeyman MC first met Keys. Their friendship branched out into a fruitful creative partnership as co-owners of Krucial Keys Enterprises. Now Brothers feels the time is right to shift back into his original rapper mode. An eight-song introductory EP featuring Brothers and 18-year-old protege Illz will come out around the end of February by way of Krucial Keys subsidiary Krucial Recordings. A full-length album, "Take Da Hood Back," is planned for June. Mixing conscious tracks, party jams, boom beats and smooth cuts, the album represents "what hip-hop is about," the Queens, N.Y.-bred Brothers says. "Too many artists are getting caught up in being one-dimensional. There's more to my music than can be put in one little box". Read more.

:: The legacy of Nina Simone is being celebrated with the release of repackaged music, in stores now. 'Forever Young, Gifted and Black: Songs of Freedom and Spirit' reflects the upheavals of the late 1960s with complete unedited 1968 concert versions of "Why? (The King of Love is Dead)" and "Mississippi Goddam", along with previously alternate versions of 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' and 'Ain't Got No – I Got Life'. Special liner notes include a foreword by Alicia Keys, and a poem and testimonial by Nikki Giovanni.

January 18, 2006
:: Alicia Keys has been notoriously quiet about her private life - causing some to speculate about a variety of possible romantic entanglements. But in a February cover story for Jane magazine, the reticent singer comes closest to revealing who she's involved with and what her plans for the future are. For starters, despite claiming otherwise in the past, Keys came clean to Jane about Keys not being her real last name. Her mother's last name was Augello, her father's was Cook, and Alicia almost picked Wilde as her nom de R&B when she was 16. But her manager suggested "Keys" after a "crazy dream" he had about needing to unlock a briefcase. "I was like, 'Keys? I play the piano keys, and keys unlock doors. Wow, that's perfect.' It described me, what I loved to do, what I wanted to do," she told the mag. "I believe in names. I believe your name definitely reflect your future." Then is there something to read into how her main collaborator, New York MC and producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, whom she's known since she was a teenager, formed a company with her called Krucial Keys? About how that reflects both their futures? "Kinda like he took her last name," Jane points out. Keys acknowledged that she's been with the same person for quite some time now, and that she sees herself as being with that same person when she starts a family. Read the full story on Mtv.com and here are pictures from Jane magazine. Bigger scans will be added soon!

January 18, 2006
:: After conquering the world of music, Alicia Keys is expanding into movie and television production. (...) "I'm a juggler by nature, that's how I've always been. My dream is to be part of a multitude of things. ... These activities feed back into my music, my music feeds back into these activities." Asked about her next album, she said: "It's bubbling. I'm very excited about it." Robinson, president of MBK Entertainment, attests to Keys' ability to handle a heavy load. "Alicia is a very energetic workaholic. She's always thinking. We're always feeding ideas off each other - which generates huge cellphone bills, by the way," Robinson said. "I'm constantly telling her to slow down, let's not conquer the world in one day. But she wants to do it all." On this page you can read the full article.

:: After conquering the world of music, Alicia Keys is expanding into movie and television production. Keys and her longtime manager Jeff Robinson, said Thursday they have formed a company whose first project will be a UPN TV series inspired by Keys' experiences as a biracial youngster growing in New York. "A lot of times I watch TV and I watch film and there's so many things I'd love to talk about that I feel don't get the opportunity to be shown," Keys said. "Sometimes things become very stereotypical and one-sided, and I feel like it's such a colorful world." Their company, New York-based Big Pita, Lil' Pita, will provide "the opportunity to expose that array," Keys said in a phone call. She's also intent on developing projects that give women their due, she added. "I was mostly raised by very strong women, and I consider myself one as well. So I'd like to see things explore that and see that strength shine through," she said. On Mtv.com you can read even more about UPN's upcoming project. There's no timetable to shoot the pilot, though it's possible it could be ready by next season.

:: Motown used to have the nickname Hitsville USA. The "Glory Road" soundtrack - in stores today - should have that nickname. The soundtrack boasts several hits from the 1960s. "It's a total representation of the late 1960s," said JoJo Garcia, operations director for Entravision Radio in El Paso, who saw the movie last Thursday. "It's the beginning of Motown movement." Songs on the soundtrack and in the movie include Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar," Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)", Martha and the Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street". All were songs at the top of the charts in the 1960s and are considered classics now. And if that weren't enough, superstar Alicia Keys is featured on three songs on the soundtrack. She sings "I Will Make the Darkness Light" and the duet "Glory Road" with Trevor Rabin and a cover with Lyfe Jennings of Isaac Hayes' classic "People Get Ready." "I think she's there for that 12 to 34 demographic to give it that extra push," Garcia said. "Glory Road" tells the story of the 1966 Texas Western College championship season in which the basketball team's all-black starting lineup beat an all-white starting lineup from the University of Kentucky.
:: I've got 30 second samples of all three Alicia's songs, so if you can't wait to hear them you can download mp3s only from here. I bet you will like them! And if you do here are some stores where you can buy this soundtrack: Cd Universe, Overstock, Amazon, Barnes & Noble.

:: Alicia Keys proved that her vocal talents aren't her only stunning feature when she took to the red carpet in Los Angeles on Thursday. She made light work of stealing the show when she turned out for a movie premiere dressed in a figure-hugging, off-the-shoulder creation. The New York native, who recently stormed the charts with her Unplugged album, was among the big names who turned out to support John Voight's new basketball flick Glory Road. And it seems likely she will be turning heads at another glitzy screening before too long, as the critically-acclaimed performer is set to make her big screen debut. Alicia plays the female lead in the action comedy Smokin' Aces, which also features Hollywood heart-throbs Ben Affleck and Andy Garcia. Co-star Ryan Reynolds confessed to having some doubts about working with the pretty songstress, but he now reckons she has what it takes to become a major movie star. "Going in you're thinking 'Oh god, this is going to be tough. Am I going to have to slow down so they can keep up'," he explained. "But that wasn't the case at all. I'm surprised she hasn't done a movie before because she's so natural. She's going to blow everybody away".
:: According to top records as rated by Billboard magazine based on sales and airplay for the preceding week, Alicia's 'Unbreakable' is on 10 place on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

:: Here is a short Billboard's review of 'Every Little Bit Hurts' single: "Every Little Bit Hurts" is assured to maintain the momentum of Keys' "Unplugged" disc. The magic here is the track's sensitive simplicity: primarily the singer, a piano, subtle strings and a gospel choir. Alicia Keys utilizes her voice in a novel, less polished manner than usual, and the raspiness and ache make this a soulful number. Perhaps not a catalog classic, but another convincing testament to one of the superb singers of the day.

:: BallerStatus.net asks Mary J Blige: "When you look at the landscape of female R&B today, are there singers out there that you like to listen to and admire"? Mary answered: "I see so many and there is a few that have pieces of everything I have ever done and they definitely stand out. You have people that are really talented - Alicia Keys, who is talented and I respect her; you have Keyshia Cole, who is just starting out and trying to find out who she is and she can sing, so you have to admire that; Beyonce, who from the jump was a businesswoman and is very smart and you have to respect that; and you have Fantasia, who is a singing fool [laughs] and I'm using that in a positive way. She can truly blow and she's an entertainer when you watch her. That's probably all I can name right now".
:: I've added several new blinks, you can view them all here.

:: Celebs know that the crowning glory to any red-carpet outfit is an elegant hairstyle. And this season locks have been piled high at parties and premieres on both sides of the Atlantic, in looks that range from sexily mussed bed-head styles to classic chignons. Charlize Theron and football fiancee Coleen McLoughlin are just two of the famous faces who've been experimenting with their usual style. Songstress Alicia Keys acknowledged the trend when she swapped her famous African braids for vintage Hollywood glamour, while Latin beauty Eva Mendes set pulses racing when she stepped out with a carefully dishevelled coiffure.
:: Krazee sent me one of the most beautiful Alicia's photoshoots taken at Barbados beach in January last year. Click on thumbnails. Thank you Krazee! :*

:: Though Ryan Reynolds had his doubts about working with Alicia Keys in Joe Carnahan's recently wrapped "Smokin' Aces", he says the singer has much stronger film chops than he expected. "Going in you're thinking, 'Oh, God, this is going to be tough. Am I going to have to slow down so they can keep up?' But that wasn't the case at all I'm surprised she hasn't done a movie before because she's so natural. She's going to blow everybody away". The action comedy, which also includes Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle and Jeremy Piven, is "about a mafia Vegas showman kind of guy who ends up in Tahoe and is about to become a witness in a federal case against the mob," explains Reynolds. "I'm the FBI agent with Ray Liotta, who's assigned to go get him and bring him back alive, but at the same time, there are eight different assassins that are all converging on the same hotel suite in Tahoe".

:: Alicia Keys has struck again. Her latest album 'Unplugged', went straight into the Billboard chart at No 1, making her the first female R&B artist to score a hat-trick of No 1 debuts. "Performing is my thing," Keys says. "It just felt like it was absolutely the right time to be able to do a broken-down version of my songs and make them really intimate and personal. "I wanted to draw the listener into my world, into my personal, private, intimate location." Sitting pretty in a Manhattan hotel, Keys has a curvaceous figure that contrasts sharply with the industry's usual requirements. Today, she's wearing her trademark braids, but has taken to wearing her hair straight. "I'm definitely not afraid to branch out and try new things, new looks." Keys is charming and thoughtful in conversation, and even when admitting she may need a holiday, she leavens the complaint with a megawatt smile. "I haven't had the greatest life-work balance," she says, "but I definitely make sure that when I need time to relax or just be with my family, or sit down and do silly things like watch movies, or go bowling, or whatever you need to do to relax or unwind, I make sure I take it".
