White, Alicia live at the Carling Apollo in Manchester, England
on June 22. "Alicia Keys is what you might call a true
pop star. Recent album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, was met
with apathy by critics, and performing to an alarmingly thin
and subdued Apollo crowd there was a worry we might witness
a star of the shooting sort. And then she appeared. She looked
every inch the icon in a figure-hugging red corset, matching
jacket and trilby and opener Karma was a real signal of intent.
Her heavy soul appeal was undeniable and by the seductive
second number, Heartburn, she had the masses bopping along
like it wasn't a school night. Keys is famed for her piano-driven
ballads, and was preaching to the converted in the aching
gospel of 'If I Ain't Got You' and during her 15 minute solo
medley, which included the Prince-penned hit 'How Come You
Don't Call Me'. It was a fun show, too, and Keys' admission
that she felt 'kinda jokey' in her band conductor persona
was appreciated for its theatrics. However, it was the recital
of Fallin', the smash hit taken from her first LP, 'Songs
in A Minor', that drew the most reverent appreciation. On
this evidence, her star is only going to get brighter".

:: The Liberals might think about playing a lot of Shania
Twain and Alicia Keys on the campaign trial to lure young
voters, if a pre-election survey by the Dominion Institute
is correct. The institute surveyed 500 young people aged 14
to 18 between March 23 and April 3, asking them their political
choices as well as their musical preference. Full details
of the poll will be released Thursday. Half of the fans of
Twain and Keys said they preferred the Liberals. Both these

:: Alicia Keys turned out to launch Apple's iTunes website
in London yesterday, but admitted that she'd rather
go to the record store than download a track. The site is
offering more than 700,000 songs that can be downloaded for
79p each and has been popular in the US since launching over
there last year. Alicia performed a couple of songs at the
launch but she managed to let slip on stage that she can't
actually work her own iPod. Then she told Radio 1 that she
reckons downloading music can never replace the fun of browsing
in a shop: "For me I love being able to go to a record
store and check it out. You know, and look for the CD that
I want and the one that you really can't find." "Or
even going to that section of the store you never go to and
saying, 'Let me just pick one that looks interesting and try
it,' or whatever. I definitely don't think this is an excuse
to get stuck behind your computer and never leave your house
ever again." However, Alicia did eventually admit that
downloading tunes from the web does have its advantages: "If
you do just wanna do something kinda quick, you know, it's
also another option".

:: Usher is hooking up with Alicia Keys. According to Jermaine
Dupri, the two have recorded a duet called "My Boo,"
and it's going to have just as much or even more impact than
"Burn" and "U Got It Bad." "It's
crazy," Dupri said on Thursday in Brooklyn, New York,
after taping his ESPN show, "Cuttin' Up." "It
didn't make [Confessions], we gonna do something crazy like
[add it] to his album. Everybody that bought this album, they
gonna have to buy it again 'cause the song is crazy. It makes
the picture that much more complete." JD says the picture
that the song paints is that A. Keys and Mr. Raymond had something
going on in the past. "People are going to think that
if Alicia has a boyfriend, Usher was her man in the beginning,"
he foretold. "It's a record like, 'No matter what, you'll
always be my boo. Regardless if I see you on TV with this
n---a and you acting like you love him, I know I was the first
person you kissed.' [Alicia's verse] is like that too. 'No
matter what girl you end up with, or you all up on TV acting
like you this and that and the third, you always gonna be
my boo.' "They ain't never date, not that I know of,
so don't start the rumors, but that's what the song is gonna
make you think," JD added with a laugh. "A lot of
people is gonna believe that story. It's good TV talk, but
that ain't what's really going on. It's a good duet."
"My Boo" isn't the first pairing of Keys and Usher.
The two worked on a remix of "If I Ain't Got You,"

:: Singer Alicia Keys has no intention of quitting her singing
career and switching over to acting despite being offered
lucrative roles by big Hollywood directors. Alicia, 23, however
says, that she will definitely star in films at some point,
but is determined to focus on her singing at the moment. "I've
already had to turn some offers down great projects with unbelievable
directors. I couldn't believe they wanted to work with me,"
rate the music quoted Alicia as saying. "My mom's an
actress who did theatre her whole life, so I've always been
exposed to it. I'll definitely do some acting in the future,"
added Alicia.

:: I was waiting for confirmation of this great news, now
I know it's for real. A Polish radio premiere of a duet single
by Alicia and Usher has been planned for 28 June. It is a
song from her latest album "The Diary of Alicia Keys".
"If Ain't Got You" sang only by Alicia originally
was launched in March this year. The hit lists number one
artist decided to join their efforts and sing the ballad together.
"If Ain't Got You" won't be released commecially,
but fans of Alicia and Usher will find this single on a special
re-edition of "The Diary of Alicia Keys" which will
hit the stores on 16th of August. Miss Keys and Usher will
meet on stage in London on June 25th, where at a special "Aftershow
Party" they will present their incredible duet live.
It will be one and only opportunity to see them performing
the song together. Alicia announced releasing of another single
from her second album for September. This time it will be
Karma. At present Alicia is preparing for European tour to
start June 19th in Berlin.

:: Some more news about Billboard Awards. R. Kelly and Jay-Z
lead the roll call of finalists for the annual Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop
Awards. Kelly tops the list, with mentions in eight categories.
Jay-Z is a finalist in seven. The awards ceremony will take
place Aug. 6 at Barton G (formerly Billboardlive) in Miami
Beach, Fla. It will cap the fifth annual Billboard/American
Urban Radio Networks R&B/Hip-Hop Conference. The confab
runs Aug. 4-6 at the Eden Roc Resort in Miami Beach.
Finalists in five categories are Beyonce, Alicia Keys, OutKast
and
Lil Jon. Tied at four are fellow Disturbing Tha Peace members
Ludacris and Chingy. Producer Kanye West is up for three awards.

:: The final roster for Hot 97's 11th annual Summer Jam was
announced this week. Kanye West, G-Unit featuring 50 Cent,
Jadakiss, Lil Jon and The Ying Yang Twins, Chingy, Twista
and Alicia Keys will all hit New York's Giant Stadium's main
stage. Big Boi of Outkast will be performing without Andre
"Ice Cold" 3000. Ice Cold has long said that he
wouldn't tour to support Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. For
the first time in 11 years, the Summer Jam will also include
a second stage. Erick Sermon, dead prez, Lil Wayne, Posta
Boy, Philly's Most and Roc Music artists Allen Anthony, Nicole
Ray, Denim and Rell will perform on the second stage. The
mega-concert will also include a fashion show, freestyle battle
areas and booths for sponsors.

:: Hot off the heels of the highly successful Ladies First
Tour with Beyoncé and Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys is
heading to Europe for a series of live performances through
June and July. The R&B singer and pianist performed at
Quincy Jones' 'We Are The Future' benefit in Rome May 16.
Next up is a May 30 show in Milan, Italy. She'll hit Portugal,
Denmark, Germany, and at least half a dozen more before wrapping
July 24 in Pori, Finland. The 23-year-old recently revealed
that she will star in an upcoming film depicting the life
of Philippa Schuyler, a biracial pianist who rose to fame
as a child prodigy in the '40s and '50s. Halle Berry is co-producing
the film.

:: Last weekend, Alicia Keys, Carlos Santana, Josh Groban
and other performers to raise funds for children in war-torn
countries. The "We are the Future" concert took
place in Rome, and the show's proceeds go to children's centers
in six war-scarred countries including Sierra Leone, Rwanda
and Ethiopia. Quincy Jones organized the "We are the
Future" concert. BBC's Radio 1 reported that Alicia Keys
pledged to give her support to the cause for life. She told
Radio 1, "I got involved in 'We are the Future' because
I think it is one of the most important projects and one of
the most meaningful projects that I'll probably be involved
in in my entire life." Miss keys also shared her thoughts
on the war in Iraq: "This war that we're in the middle
of right now - it's a devastation, it's a travesty, it's horrendous,
it brings me to tears." Keys added, "Almost all

something like this is so important because the people that

:: Some people might wonder what Alicia Keys is doing at the
Cannes Film Festival, let alone why she's hosting a yacht
party there. Turns out she's there on business - according
to her publicist, Keys is planning a foray into film. Keys'
debut is slated to be the lead role in a biopic about biracial
piano prodigy Philippa Schuyler, to be co-produced by Halle
Berry. "She wanted to go, have her introduction to the
film world, and say, 'I'm here, I want to be part of Hollywood,'
Keys' publicist, said. Her big-screen debut as Schuyler will
be based on the 1995 biography "Composition in Black
and White" by Kathryn Talalay, which details how the
child prodigy's musical career was clouded by her racial identity.
The singer is also doing European promotion for her album
to help set up a forthcoming tour. Word of her acting debut
comes on the heels of news that she's making forays into the

:: Alicia Puts Beyonce Feud Rumors to Rest. Alicia Keys and
Beyonce are not enemies. In fact, they've known each other
since they were 14. In an interview with BBC's Radio 1 this
week, Keys addressed rumors of her supposed "feud"
with Beyonce. "I knew that was gonna happen just because
it's two women and, whenever there's two women involved in
anything, people automatically say they have problems with
each other -- but we do not have problems with each other,
we never have problems with each other," said Keys. The
"If I Ain't Got You" singer told Radio 1 that she
is very proud of Beyonce. Explained Keys, "I think there
was always like a healthy, competitive competition just on
the road in the sense of both wanting to put the best foot
forward, so it's not necessarily about competition against
each other. It's about competition to inspire ourselves and
do our best shows."

:: Alicia Keys has announced that she will play a concert
at Dublin's Olympia Theatre on 27 June. Keys will perform
just one concert at the intimate setting. Tickets for the
concert go on sale on Thursday 20 May from the Olympia Theatre
box office and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.

:: Alicia Keys will make her film debut in a Halle Berry-produced
biopic about piano prodigy Philippa Schuyler, her publicist
told The Associated Press on Thursday. The yet untitled film
details the life of Schuyler, the only child of George Schuyler,
a renowned black journalist and author, and Josephine Cogdell,
a white artist and writer. Born in 1939, Schuyler was a child
prodigy who played at Carnegie Hall and around the world.
But she encountered racism as she grew older, and had trouble
finding acceptance. She later became a journalist and was
killed in 1967 in a plane crash in Vietnam. The rights to
the film are owned by Berry, and the Academy Award-winning
actress will produce the film along with Marc Platt, who produced
the Tony-nominated Broadway show "Wicked" and the
Reese Witherspoon "Legally Blonde" movies, according
to Keys' publicist Samantha Tillman. Like Schuyler, Keys'
mother is white and her father is black, and she is a classically
trained pianist.

among the nominees for the 2004 BET Awards honoring musicians,
actors and athletes. The awards, airing June 29 from the Kodak
Theatre, will include a lifetime achievement award for the
Isley Brothers and humanitarian honors for actor Danny Glover.
Actress Mo'Nique is the ceremony's host. The categories for
Miss Keys announced Wednesday were: Video Of The Year (for
"You Don't Know My Name") and Best Female R&B

compilations! But depending on the mood you're in, this one
might work. The cover says it all, pink with a red heart fashioned
from rose petals. It's love, romance and pure slush. Sit,
or preferably lie back and just take in all the pretty boys
from Gareth Gates, Westlife, Will Young, Justin Timberlake
and of course Elvis Presley with Always on my Mind. Then there's
the latest sensation Katie Melua, Dido, Destiny's Child, Alicia
Keys, Jennifer Lopez and the hardcore Macy Gray, yes she does
do love. It's good to see they can all do romance and give
as much as their earlier counterparts. But you have to discard
any cynicism and just float with the music if there's any
chance for this one. It's easy, smooth crooning with messages
that don't go much further than a romantic notion.

get more attention than the other. Beyonce is reportedly very
angry because the critics often say that Alicia steals the
show. Alicia on the other hand is unhappy about the fact that
Beyonce gets far more space on the promotional posters. "There's
barely a word exchanged between the two of them and their
entourages are purposely kept separate. Beyonce is the tour
headliner and Alicia feels as if she's being treated like
a second class citizen," said a source.

:: Rapper 50 Cent is in serious jeopardy of losing that tough
guy thug image he’s worked so hard on maintaining. Reports
are that the now single 50 Cent has been placing calls to
Alicia Keys all the time by not only himself, but members
of G-Unit as well. Unfortunately, he’s setting himself
up for heartbreak. Spokespeople for Alicia Keys have said
that 50 Cent is just not Alicia Keys type, but more along
the lines of Mos Def or Method Man would be in her area. Reports
are that 50 has been calling up and asking if any interest
would lie in a collaboration as well but it’s not fooling
any of Keys’ management staff. Usually if someone wants
to work with another artist, the record companies handle the
request. Keys’ spokespeople said that if it was all business,
Keys would be interested since she digs 50’s musical
ability, but not his cute factor. Ouch.
